Horn System - Communication System: Removal & Installation Subaru Outback BR

INSTALLATION

Install each part in the reverse order of removal.

CAUTIONInstall the bumper face so that the under cover front end (b) comes inside the front bumper face (a).

Tightening torque

Horn assembly: 18 N.m (1.84 kgf-m, 13.3 ft-lb)

Scheme 25: CHECK HORN ASSEMBLY
  1. Remove the horn assembly (Hi pitch side and Lo pitch side). Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-371954-S30979608682010091900000) , Horn.
  2. Check the horn sounds when applying the battery voltage to the horn assembly. TERMINAL SPECIFICATION Terminal No. Inspection conditions Specification 1 (+) - horn case (-) Connect battery to the terminals Sound
  3. If it does not operate normally by the inspection, replace the horn assembly.

REMOVAL

CAUTIONRefer to "CAUTION" of "General Description" before handling the airbag module. Ref. to CAUTION , General Description.

Note. Horn switch is a unit with the driver's airbag module.

  1. Position the front wheels straight ahead. (After moving a vehicle 5 m (16 ft) or more with front wheels positioned straight ahead, make sure that the vehicle moves straight ahead.)
  2. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  3. Disconnect the ground cable from battery and wait for at least 60 seconds before starting work.
  4. Remove the driver's airbag module assembly. Preparation tool: TORX® T30 Loosen the TORX® bolts located on the sides of the steering wheel. Disconnect the horn harness and airbag connector and remove the airbag module assembly.
CAUTIONRefer to "CAUTION" of "General Description" before handling the airbag module. Ref. to CAUTION , General Description. Do not allow harness and connectors to interfere or get tangled up with other parts.
  1. Install the driver's airbag module. Ref. to «INSTALLATION»(ref-371944-S16036369402010091900000) , Driver's Airbag Module.
  2. Install each part in the reverse order of removal. Tightening torque: Driver's airbag module: 10 N.m (1.02 kgf-m, 7.4 ft-lb)

Scheme 28: CHECK HORN SWITCH
  1. Remove the horn switch. Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-371954-S26624865352010091900000) , Horn Switch.
  2. Measure the resistance between horn switch terminal and airbag module bracket. Preparation tool: Circuit tester TERMINAL SPECIFICATION Terminal No. Inspection conditions Specification Horn switch terminal - airbag module bracket The airbag module bracket being pushed Less than 1 ohms The airbag module bracket being separated 1 Mohms or more
  3. If it is out of the standard value by the inspection, replace the driver's airbag module.

Scheme 29: CHECK ROLL CONNECTOR
  1. Remove the roll connector. Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-371944-S33969663752010091900000) , Roll Connector.
  2. Measure the resistance between roll connector terminals. Preparation tool: Circuit tester TERMINAL SPECIFICATION Terminal No. Inspection conditions Specification A10 - C10 Always Less than 1 ohms
  3. If it is out of the standard value by the inspection, replace the roll connector.
