CHARGE INDICATOR LIGHT
Light comes on with the ignition switch in the ON position as a bulb check and should go out shortly after engine is started to indicate that alternator is operating properly. If light remains on or comes on while driving, it indicates possible fault in the electrical charging system. Have the system checked and serviced promptly. Do not continue driving if alternator belt is loose or broken.
OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT
Light comes on with the ignition switch in the ON position and goes out after engine is started. Light indicates low oil pressure, but does not indicate amount of oil in engine. If light remains on or comes on while driving, stop vehicle, turn off engine and check oil level. If oil level is sufficient, there may be a fault in the lubricating system. Have the system checked and serviced immediately to locate and correct cause. DO NOT operate vehicle until problem has been corrected.
BRAKE WARNING LIGHT
Light comes on with the ignition switch in the ON position as a bulb check and goes out after engine is started. Light will also come on with the parking brake fully or partially engaged. If light does not come on as designed or comes on at any other time, then the bulb may be burned out, the parking brake switch may be damaged or the brake fluid level in the reservoir may be low. Vehicle braking system is equipped with dual hydraulic circuit to provide backup should a leak occur in either half of the system. If light comes on while driving, check brake fluid level and have the system checked and serviced. DO NOT continue driving if fluid level is well below the MIN mark on reservoir.
ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) WARNING LIGHT
Light comes on with the ignition switch in the ON position as a bulb check and goes out after engine is started. If light remains on or comes on while driving, it indicates a possible malfunction in the anti-lock braking system. Stop vehicle in a safe place and turn off engine. Restart engine, and check light. If it goes out, then there is no problem. If light remains illuminated, have the system checked and serviced promptly. The regular braking system will still operate normally, but without anti-lock function.
STOP LAMP WARNING LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)
Light comes on when the ignition is turned on as a bulb check and goes out after engine is started. If light comes on with engine running and brake pedal depressed, it indicates that one of the stoplight bulbs is burned out. The right and left brake lights on sedan models have two bulbs each, if both bulbs are burned out, the STOP LAMP light will not illuminate. On wagon models, warning light will not come on if both left and right brake light bulbs have burned out.
FWD WARNING LIGHT (AWD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION VEHICLES)
Light comes on when a fuse is inserted into the FWD connector to put vehicle into front wheel drive mode for maintenance and servicing purposes only. For everyday operation, the fuse should be removed from the FWD connector and the light should be off.
POWER INDICATOR LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)
Light should come on momentarily with the ignition switch in the ON position and should go out shortly after. If light remains flashing for about 8 seconds or more, there may be a problem in the automatic transmission control system. Have the system checked and serviced as necessary if this should happen. Light will also come on when driving uphill or during rapid acceleration to indicate that vehicle is currently being operated in POWER drive mode. Light should remain of when in NORMAL drive mode.
MANUAL INDICATOR LIGHT
On automatic transmission vehicles, light comes on when the MANUAL switch is pressed to put vehicle in manual transmission mode. Light goes out when MANUAL switch is pressed again to release manual mode.
A/T OIL TEMP WARNING LIGHT (AWD)
Light comes on with the ignition switch in the ON position as a bulb check, and goes out after engine is started. If light comes on while driving, it indicates that the automatic transmission fluid temperature is abnormally high. Avoid driving on steep hills or in stop-and-go traffic if light comes on. If necessary, stop vehicle and leave engine running at idle speed until light goes out. Normal vehicle operation may be resumed after light has gone out. If light does not go out, have the system checked and serviced as necessary.
AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)
When ignition is switch is turn to the ON position, AIR BAG indicator light will come on for about 8 seconds, to show normal system operation, then go out. If light remains illuminated or does not come on at all, have system checked.
CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT
Light comes on with the ignition switch in the ON position and goes out after engine is started to indicate that system is operating properly. If it remains on or comes on while driving, it indicate possible fault in the electronic engine control system. Have the system checked and serviced to correct problem as soon as possible.
