CAUTION
- Wear work clothing, including a cap, protective goggles, and protective shoes during operation.
- Remove contamination including dirt and corrosion before removal, installation or disassembly.
- Keep the disassembled parts in order and protect them from dust and dirt.
- Before removal, installation or disassembly, be sure to clarify the failure. Avoid unnecessary removal, installation, disassembly, and replacement.
- Be careful not to burn yourself, because each part on the vehicle is hot after running.
- Be sure to tighten fasteners including bolts and nuts to the specified torque.
- Place shop jacks or rigid racks at the specified points.
- Before disconnecting electrical connectors of sensor or units, be sure to disconnect the ground cable from battery.

- Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
- Disconnect the connector from mass air flow and intake air temperature sensor. (Scheme 251): Identifying Intake Air Temperature Sensor Connector
- Loosen the clamp (A) which connects the air intake boot and intake duct.
- Remove the clip (B) from air cleaner upper cover. (Scheme 252): Identifying Clamp And Clip
- Remove the air cleaner upper cover.
- Remove the air cleaner element.
INSTALLATION
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Note. Before installing the air cleaner upper cover, align the holes with protruding portions of air cleaner lower case, then secure the upper cover to the lower case.

INSPECTION
Replace it if excessively damaged or dirty.

- Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
- Disconnect the connector from mass air flow and intake air temperature sensor. see scheme 8: Identifying Intake Air Temperature Sensor Connector
- Loosen the clamp (A) which connects the air intake boot and intake duct.
- Remove the clip (B) from air cleaner upper cover. see scheme 9: Identifying Clamp And Clip
- Remove the air cleaner upper cover.
- Remove the air cleaner element.
- Remove the air cleaner lower case. (Scheme 254): Locating Air Cleaner Lower Case Nuts
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Tightening torque
33 N.m (3.4 kgf-m, 24.6 ft-lb)
Note. Before installing the air cleaner upper cover, align the holes with protruding portions of air cleaner lower case, then secure the upper cover to the lower case.
Inspect for cracks and loose connections.
REMOVAL
Remove the bolts which install the air intake duct on front side of body.

Install in the reverse order of removal.
Tightening torque
7.5 N.m (0.76 kgf-m, 55 ft-lb)
- Inspect for cracks and loose connections.
- Inspect that no foreign objects are mixed in air intake duct.

- Remove the intake duct from intake manifold. (Scheme 256): Locating Intake Duct From Intake Manifold
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Tightening torque
19 N.m (1.9 kgf-m, 13.7 ft-lb)

- Loosen the clamp (A) which connects the turbo-charger to intercooler ducts.
- Loosen the clamp (B) which connects the throttle body to intercooler. (Scheme 261): Identifying Clamp
- Remove the intercooler air duct from turbocharger.
- Remove the intercooler from throttle body.
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Tightening torque
16 N.m (1.6 kgf-m, 11.6 ft-lb)

ASSEMBLY

- Lower the vehicle.
- Disconnect the turbocharger joint pipe from turbo-charger. (Scheme 264): Locating Turbocharger Bolts
- Disconnect the engine coolant hose which is connected to coolant filler tank. (Scheme 265): Locating Engine Coolant Hose
- Loosen the clamp which secures the turbocharger to intake duct. (Scheme 266): Identifying Turbocharger To Intake Duct
- Remove the bolt which secures the bracket of oil inlet pipe to turbocharger.
- Remove the oil inlet pipe from turbocharger. (Scheme 267): Identifying Oil Inlet Pipe From Turbocharger (1 Of 2) (Scheme 268): Identifying Oil Inlet Pipe From Turbocharger (2 Of 2)
- Disconnect the engine coolant hose.
- Remove the turbocharger bracket. (Scheme 269): Locating Turbocharger Bracket Bolts
- Disconnect the oil outlet hose from pipe. (Scheme 270): Locating Oil Outlet Hose Clamp
- Take out the turbocharger from engine compartment.

- Connect the oil outlet hose to outlet pipe. see scheme 35: Locating Oil Outlet Hose Clamp
- Install the turbocharger to intake duct. Tightening torque: 3 N.m (0.3 kgf-m, 2.2 ft-lb) see scheme 36: Identifying Turbocharger To Intake Duct
- Install the oil inlet pipe to turbocharger. NOTE: Replace the gasket with new one. Tightening torque: T1:16 N.m (1.6 kgf-m, 11.6 ft-lb) T2:29 N.m (3.0 kgf-m, 21.7 ft-lb) T3: 4.9 N.m (0.50 kgf-m, 3.6 ft-lb) (Scheme 271): Identifying Oil Inlet Pipe And Metal Gasket
- Install the joint pipe to turbocharger. NOTE: Replace the gasket with a new one. Tightening torque: 35 N.m (3.6 kgf-m, 25.8 ft-lb) see scheme 38: Locating Turbocharger Bolts
- Connect the engine coolant hose.
- Install the turbocharger bracket. Tightening torque: 33 N.m (3.4 kgf-m, 24.6 ft-lb) see scheme 39: Locating Turbocharger Bracket Bolts
- Connect the engine coolant hose which is connected to coolant filler tank. see scheme 40: Locating Engine Coolant Hose
- Lift-up the vehicle.
- Install the center exhaust pipe. < Ref. to «INSTALLATION»(/subaru/impreza-wrx/gdgg-2-2005-2007/remont/exhaust/#exhaust-h4dotc-engine), Center Exhaust Pipe. >
- Remove the air by-pass valve from intercooler. see scheme 41: Locating Air By-Pass Valve From Intercooler
- Disconnect the air by-pass hoses from air bypass valve.
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Note. Do not let the O-ring bite.
Tightening torque
16 N.m (1.6 kgf-m, 11.6 ft-lb)

- Set the vehicle on a lift.

- Remove the air cleaner lower case. < Ref. to «REMOVAL»(/subaru/impreza-wrx/gdgg-2-2005-2007/remont/mechanical/#intake-induction-h4dotc-engine), Air Cleaner Case. >
- Remove the resonator chamber mounting nut on right side of engine compartment. (Scheme 272): Locating Resonator Chamber Mounting Nut
- Remove the front wheel RH, and lift up the vehicle.
- Remove the front mud guard RH.
- Remove the resonator chamber from the inside front fender. (Scheme 273): Identifying Resonator Chamber From Inside Front Fender
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Tightening torque
7.5 N.m (0.76 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)
- Inspect for cracks and loose connections.
- Inspect that no foreign objects are mixed in resonator chamber.
