CAUTION
- Wear work clothing, including a cap, protective goggles, and protective shoes during operation.
- Remove contamination including dirt and corrosion before removal, installation or disassembly.
- Keep the disassembled parts in order and protect them from dust and dirt.
- Before removal, installation or disassembly, be sure to clarify the failure. Avoid unnecessary removal, installation, disassembly, and replacement.
- Be careful not to burn yourself, because each part on the vehicle is hot after running.
- Be sure to tighten fasteners including bolts and nuts to the specified torque.
- Place shop jacks or rigid racks at the specified points.
- Before disconnecting electrical connectors of sensors or units, be sure to disconnect the ground cable from battery.

- Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

- Remove the under cover.
- Remove the lower exhaust manifold cover (RH).

- Remove the bolts and nuts which hold the front exhaust pipe assembly to turbocharger joint pipe.
- While holding the front exhaust pipe assembly with one hand, remove the nuts which hold the front exhaust pipe assembly to cylinder head exhaust port. (Scheme 18): Identifying Exhaust Pipe Bolts
- Remove the front exhaust pipe assembly.
- Remove the covers from exhaust manifold and front exhaust pipe.

INSTALLATION
Note. Replace the gaskets with new ones.

- Install the front exhaust pipe covers. Tightening torque: Turbo model 7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb) STi model 25 N.m (2.5 kgf-m, 18.1 ft-lb)
- Install the upper exhaust manifold cover (RH). Tightening torque: Turbo model 7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb) STi model 19 N.m (1.9 kgf-m, 13.7 ft-lb)
- Install the front exhaust pipe assembly. Tightening torque: 35 N.m (3.6 kgf-m, 26 ft-lb)
- Connect the exhaust manifold (RH) to turbo-charger joint pipe. - Install the upper and lower exhaust manifold covers (LH). Tightening torque: Turbo model 7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb) STi model 19 N.m (1.9 kgf-m, 13.7 ft-lb)
- Install the lower exhaust manifold cover (RH). Tightening torque: Turbo model 7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb) STi model 19 N.m (1.9 kgf-m, 13.7 ft-lb) see scheme 14: Identifying Lower Exhaust Manifold Cover

- Install the under cover.
- Connect the battery ground cable to battery.

- Lift-up the vehicle.
- Remove the under cover.
- Remove the bolts which install the under side of turbocharger lower cover. CAUTION: Be careful, the turbocharger and exhaust pipe are hot. (Scheme 25): Locating Bolts
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the turbocharger upper cover. (Scheme 26): Identifying Turbocharger Upper Cover With Bolts
- Remove the bolts which install the upper side of turbocharger lower cover, and remove it. (Scheme 27): Locating Turbocharger Lower Cover Bolt
- Separate the center exhaust pipe from turbocharger. (Scheme 28): Identifying Center Exhaust Pipe From Turbocharger
- Lift-up the vehicle.
- Disconnect the connector from rear oxygen sensor. (Scheme 29): Identifying Connector From Rear Oxygen Sensor
- Vertically draw out the clip from crossmember. (Scheme 30): Locating Crossmember Clip
- Separate the center exhaust pipe from rear exhaust pipe. (Scheme 31): Identifying Center Exhaust Pipe From Rear Exhaust Pipe
- Remove the bolt which holds the center exhaust pipe bracket to transmission. (Scheme 32): Identifying Center Exhaust Pipe Bracket To Transmission
- Remove the intercooler bracket.
- Remove the bolt which holds the center exhaust pipe to hanger bracket. CAUTION: Be careful not to pull down the center exhaust pipe. (Scheme 33): Identifying Center Exhaust Pipe To Hanger Bracket
- Remove the center exhaust pipe. (Scheme 34): Identifying Center Exhaust Pipe
Note. Replace the gaskets with new ones.
Scheme 35
- Install the center exhaust pipe and temporarily tighten the bolt which holds the center exhaust pipe to hanger bracket.
- Temporarily tighten the bolt which holds the center pipe to transmission.
- Connect the center exhaust pipe to turbocharger. Tightening torque: 35 N.m (3.6 kgf-m, 26 ft-lb) see scheme 26: Identifying Center Exhaust Pipe From Turbocharger
- Install the center exhaust pipe to rear exhaust pipe. Tightening torque: 18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13 ft-lb) see scheme 27: Identifying Center Exhaust Pipe To Rear Exhaust Pipe
- Connect the connector to rear oxygen sensor. see scheme 28: Identifying Connector To Rear Oxygen Sensor
- Secure the clip on crossmember. see scheme 29: Locating Crossmember Clip
- Tighten the bolt which holds the center exhaust pipe bracket to transmission. Tightening torque: 30 N.m (3.1 kgf-m, 22.4 ft-lb) see scheme 30: Identifying Center Exhaust Pipe Bracket To Transmission
- Tighten the bolt which holds the center exhaust pipe to hanger bracket. Tightening torque: 35 N.m (3.6 kgf-m, 26 ft-lb) see scheme 31: Identifying Center Exhaust Pipe To Hanger Bracket
- Lower the vehicle.
- Place the turbocharger lower cover, and tighten the bolts which install the upper side of lower cover. Tightening torque: 7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb) see scheme 32: Locating Turbocharger Lower Cover Bolt
- Place the turbocharger upper cover, and tighten the bolts which install the upper side of upper cover. Tightening torque: 7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb) (Scheme 35): Locating Turbocharger Upper Cover Bolts
- Lift-up the vehicle.
- Tighten the bolts which install the under side of turbocharger lower cover. Tightening torque: 7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb) see scheme 34: Locating Turbocharger Lower Cover Bolts
- Install the under cover.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the intercooler bracket. see scheme 35: Locating Intercooler Bracket Bolts

- Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

- Remove the under cover.
- Remove the exhaust manifold lower cover (RH). see scheme 36: Identifying Exhaust Manifold Lower Cover
- Remove the nuts which hold the front exhaust manifold to joint pipe. (Scheme 36): Locating Front Exhaust Manifold To Joint Pipe Nut
- Remove the center exhaust pipe. < Ref. to «REMOVAL»(/subaru/impreza-wrx/gdgg-2-2005-2007/remont/exhaust/#exhaust-h4dotc-engine), Center Exhaust Pipe. >
- Remove the turbocharger. < Ref. to «REMOVAL»(/subaru/impreza-wrx/gdgg-2-2005-2007/remont/mechanical/#intake-induction-h4dotc-engine), Turbocharger. >
- Take off the joint pipe in the upward direction.
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Tightening torque
T: 35 N.m (3.6 kgf-m, 26 ft-lb)

- Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
- Lift-up the vehicle.
- Separate the rear exhaust pipe from center exhaust pipe. NOTE: Be careful, the exhaust pipe is hot. see scheme 39: Identifying Rear Exhaust Pipe From Center Exhaust Pipe
- Separate the rear exhaust pipe from muffler. CAUTION: Be careful not to pull down the rear exhaust pipe. (Scheme 38): Identifying Rear Exhaust Pipe From Muffler
- Remove the rear exhaust pipe.
Note. Replace the gaskets and self-locking nut with new ones.
- Install the rear exhaust pipe to muffler. Tightening torque: 48 N.m (4.9 kgf-m, 35.4 ft-lb) see scheme 41: Locating Rear Exhaust Pipe To Muffler Nut And Bolt
- Install the rear exhaust pipe to center exhaust pipe. Tightening torque: 18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13 ft-lb) see scheme 42: Identifying Rear Exhaust Pipe To Center Exhaust Pipe
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the battery ground cable to battery.
INSPECTION
- Make sure there are no exhaust leaks from connections and welds.
- Make sure there are no holes or rusting.
- Make sure the cushion rubber is not worn or cracked.
REMOVAL
- Separate the muffler from rear exhaust pipe. CAUTION: Be careful, the exhaust pipe is hot. see scheme 43: Locating Muffler From Rear Exhaust Pipe
- Remove the rubber cushions, and detach the muffler.
| CAUTION | Be careful not to drop the muffler during removal. |
Note. To facilitate removal, apply a coat of spray type lubricant to the mating area of rubber cushions in advance.

Install in the reverse order of removal.
Note. Replace the gasket and self-locking nut with a new one.
