Removal

Release fuel pressure. See «FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE»(ref-49462-S08817019172001011500000). Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove accessory drive belt cover and belts. Remove generator and A/C compressor with brackets. Remove hoses and coolant tubes from cylinder block.
Disconnect all electrical connectors interfering with cylinder head removal. Remove intake manifold. See «INTAKE MANIFOLD»(ref-49462-S40192571262001011500000). Remove camshaft position sensor. Remove timing belt. See «TIMING BELT»(ref-49462-S02393558732001121700000). Remove valve cover and camshafts. See «CAMSHAFTS»(ref-49462-S06269526182001011500000).
Remove engine oil dipstick tube attaching bolt (left side only). Remove cylinder head bolts in reverse order of tightening sequence. (Scheme 4) Remove cylinder head and gasket. DO NOT drop cylinder head.

Ensure mating surfaces are clean and dry. Install NEW head gasket. Coat head bolt threads with oil. Tighten bolts to specification in sequence. (Scheme 4) See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-49462-S12880756632001011500000).
To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-49462-S12880756632001011500000).
