ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

HINT

Inspect these items on a cooled down engine.

Scheme 1

1. DRIVE BELT (See «FAN AND GENERATOR V BELT (2AZ-FE)»(ref-224768-S30284662712006031100000) )
2. REPLACE SPARK PLUGS (See «IGNITION SYSTEM (2AZ-FE)»(ref-224772-S18208001512006031100000) )
3. INSPECT AIR FILTER Remove the air filter. Visually check that the air filter is not excessively damaged, dirty or oily. Replace the air filter if necessary. Clean the filter with compressed air. HINT: First blow from the inside of the filter thoroughly then repeat from the outside.
4. REPLACE AIR FILTER Replace the air filter with a new one.
5. REPLACE ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER (See «OIL FILTER SUB-ASSY (2AZ-FE)»(ref-224771-S15692372992006031100000) )
6. REPLACE ENGINE COOLANT (See «ENGINE COOLANT (2AZ-FE)»(ref-224770-S13931103942006031100000) )
7. INSPECT GASKET IN FUEL TANK CAP (See «INSPECTION»(ref-224767-S02811407572006031100000)
8. INSPECT FUEL LINES AND CONNECTIONS, FUEL TANK VAPOR VENT SYSTEM HOSES AND FUEL TANK BANDS Visually check the fuel lines and vapor vent system hoses for cracks, leakage, loose connections and deformation. Also check the tank band for looseness.
9. INSPECT EXHAUST PIPES AND MOUNTINGS Visually check the pipes, hangers and connections for severe corrosion, leaks and damage.
10. INSPECT VALVE CLEARANCE (See «VALVE CLEARANCE (2AZ-FE)»(ref-224768-S17236351722006031100000) )

Scheme 2

1. INSPECT BRAKE LINE PIPES AND HOSES HINT: Work in a well-lit area. Turn the front wheels fully to the right or left before beginning. Check all the brake lines and hoses for: Damage Wear Deformation Cracks Corrosion Leaks Bends Twists Check all the clamps for tightness and the connections for leakage. Check that the hoses and lines are not near sharp edges, moving parts or the exhaust system. Check that the installed lines pass through the center of the grommets.

4. INSPECT OR CHANGE BRAKE FLUID (See «BRAKE FLUID»(ref-224778-S03975965282006031100000) ) Fluid: SAE J1703 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT3

1. INSPECT STEERING LINKAGE Check the amount of free play on the steering wheel (See ). Check the steering linkage for looseness or damage. Check that the tie rod ends do not have excessive free play. Check that the dust seals and boots are not damaged. Check that the boot clamps are not loose.
2. INSPECT STEERING GEAR HOUSING OIL Check the steering gear housing for oil leakage. If oil is leaking, find the cause and repair it.
3. INSPECT BALL JOINTS AND DUST COVERS Inspect the ball joints for excessive looseness. Jack up the front of the vehicle and place wooden blocks with a height of 180 to 200 mm (7.09 to 7.87 in.) under the front tires. Lower the vehicle until the front coil spring has about half its ordinary load. Place stands under the vehicle for safety. Check that the front wheels are pointing straight ahead. Use wheel chocks on the rear tires. Using a lever, pry up the end of the lower arm. Measure the ball joint vertical play. Maximum ball joint vertical play: 0 mm (0 in.) If the vertical play is greater than the maximum, replace the ball joint. Check the dust cover for damage.
4. INSPECT DRIVE SHAFT BOOTS Check the drive shaft boots for loose clamps, grease leakage, kinks or damage.
5. CHECK TRANSAXLE OIL (FLUID) Visually check the transaxle for oil (fluid) leakage. If oil is leaking, find the cause and repair it.

2. REPLACE AIR CONDITIONING FILTER HINT: The installation procedures are the removal procedures in reverse order. Remove the glove compartment assembly. Remove the filter case from the filter outlet. Remove the filter from the filter case. Replace the filter with a new one.
