INITIALIZATION
Note. When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, initialize the following system(s) after the cable is reconnected.

SYSTEM NAME
- RESET (INITIALIZE) POWER WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR NOTE: Resetting the power window motors (initializing the pulse sensors) is necessary if one of the following occurs: 1) the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal; 2) the power window regulator master switch, power window regulator switch, wire harness, power window regulator and power window motor are replaced or removed/installed; or 3) the GAUGE fuse, AM1 fuse, FL DOOR fuse and FR DOOR fuse are replaced. The AUTO operation function, jam protection function and remote operation function via the power window regulator master switch will not operate unless the motors are reset. Be sure to reset the power window regulator motors using the power window switch on each door. The motors cannot be reset by remote operation through the power window regulator master switch. In order to prevent overcurrent in the system, do not simultaneously reset 2 or more power window regulator motors. If the power window switch has been continuously operated for a long time, the power window regulator motor will stop so that no additional load can be applied to the motor. Continuing to operate the switch even after the motor has stopped will cause the switch indicator to blink while restricting the AUTO UP/DOWN function and the remote UP/DOWN function. If this happens, reset the motor again after a few minutes have passed. Turn the ignition switch ON. Halfway open the power window by pressing the power window switch. Fully pull up the switch until the power window is fully closed and continue to hold the switch for approximately 1 second after the power window is fully closed. Check that the AUTO UP/DOWN function operates normally. If the AUTO/DOWN function operates normally, reset operations are complete. If not normal, follow steps to (g) below. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal for 10 seconds. Connect the battery cable. Perform steps ( a ) to ( d ) again. If the AUTO/DOWN function operates normally, reset operations are complete. If not normal, proceed to steps (h) to ( l ) below. Turn the ignition switch ON. Halfway open the power window by pressing the power window switch. Fully pull up the switch until the power window is fully closed, and continue to hold the switch for approximately 12 seconds after the power window is fully closed. Check that the AUTO UP/DOWN function operates normally.
- RESET SLIDING ROOF DRIVE GEAR (MOTOR) NOTE: The drive gear (motor) must be reset (pulse sensor's location must be set) when one of the following occurs: 1) the cable has been disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal, 2) the drive gear connector is connected/disconnected, or 3) the sliding roof is replaced or installed/removed. If the drive gear is not reset, the AUTO function will not operate. The sliding roof AUTO operation and the jam protection function may not operate normally if the battery cable is disconnected/reconnected, replaced or recharged. Initialize the sliding roof system using the method below. Turn the ignition switch ON. Press the close switch to activate the close operation. Fully close the roof and continue to press the close switch for approximately 2 seconds. When the sliding roof control ECU initialization is finished, the roof will automatically open and stop a few millimeters from the fully open position. HINT: If the battery cable is disconnected, the sliding roof control ECU may not detect the position of the roof glass. If the sliding roof AUTO operation is still disabled even after the drive gear has been initialized, the Hall IC may be malfunctioning. The Hall IC is built into the drive gear and detects the roof glass position. If the result is not as specified, replace the drive gear assy (sliding roof control ECU).
- INSPECT SLIDING ROOF FUNCTION (See «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION»(ref-224795-S00615781962006031100000) ) HINT: If the jam protection function is not operating, reset the drive gear again. If the AUTO operation function and jam protection function do not operate after the drive gear has been reset, replace the drive gear assy (sliding roof control ECU).

- NOTICE ABOUT VEHICLE CONDITION WHEN JACKING UP VEHICLE The vehicle must be unloaded before jacking up the vehicle. Never jack up/lift up a heavily loaded vehicle. When removing heavy parts such as the engine and transmission, the center of gravity of the vehicle may shift. To stabilize the vehicle, place a balance weight in a location where it will not roll or shift, or use a mission jack to hold the jacking support.
- NOTICE FOR USING 4 POST LIFT Follow the safety procedures outlined in the instruction manual. Use precautionary measures to prevent the free wheel beam from damaging tires or wheels. Use wheel chocks to secure the vehicle.
- NOTICE FOR USING JACK AND SAFETY STAND Work on a level surface using wheel chocks at all times. Use a rigid rack with a rubber attachment, as shown in the illustration. Set the jack and rigid rack to the specified location on the vehicle. When jacking up the front wheels, release the parking brake and place wheel chocks only behind the rear wheels. When jacking up the rear wheels, place wheel chocks only in front of the front wheels. The jack should not be used without the rigid rack. When jacking up only the front wheels or only the rear wheels, place wheel chocks on both sides of the wheels touching the ground. When lowering a vehicle with its front wheels jacked up, release the parking brake and place wheel chocks only in front of the rear wheels. When lowering a vehicle with its rear wheels jacked up, place wheel chocks only behind the front wheels.
- NOTICE FOR USING SWING ARM TYPE LIFT Follow safety procedures outlined in the instruction manual. Use a swing arm equipped with a rubber attachment, as shown in the illustration. When using the lift, make sure that the vehicle is stabilized so that it will not tilt while work is being performed. Stabilize the vehicle by adjusting the lift arm's length and vehicle's position. When using the lift, its center should be as close to the vehicle's center of gravity as possible (length of "L" in the illustration should be as short as possible). Set the vehicle on the lift as level as possible. Then match the groove of the cradle to the rigid rack support location. Be sure to lock the swing arms before lifting and during work (if equipped with arm locks). Use the lift to raise the vehicle off the ground. Stand at a safe distance and shake the vehicle to make sure it is stable.
- NOTICE FOR USING PLATE TYPE LIFT Follow safety procedures outlined in the instruction manual. Use plate lift attachments (rubber lifting blocks) on top of the plate surface. Refer to the table below to determine how to properly set the vehicle. PLATE TYPE LIFT SPECIFICATION Right and left set position Place the vehicle over the center of the lift. Front and rear set position Place the attachments at the ends of the rubber plate surface, under the vehicle lift pad (A and C in the illustration). Raise the plate slightly and reposition the vehicle so the top of the attachment (B in the illustration) is aligned with the front side notch in the vehicle rocker flange. Use the lift to raise the vehicle off the ground. Stand at a safe distance and shake the vehicle to make sure it is stable.
FOR USING HAND-HELD TESTER
- Before using the tester, the tester operator's manual should be read thoroughly.
- Connect the cable of the tester to the DLC3, turn the main switch ON and attempt to use the tester. If the display indicates that a communication error has occurred, there is a problem either with the vehicle or with the tester. If communication is normal when the tester is connected to another vehicle, inspect the diagnosis data link line (Bus (+) line) or ECU power circuit of the vehicle. If communication is still not possible when the tester is connected to another vehicle, the problem may be in the tester itself. Perform the Self Test procedures outlined in the tester operator's manual.
CUSTOMER PROBLEM ANALYSIS
HINT
- When troubleshooting, confirm that the problem symptoms have been accurately identified. Preconceptions should be discarded so that an accurate judgement can be made. To clearly understand what the problem symptoms are, it is extremely important to ask the customer about the problem and the conditions at the time it occurred.
