CHARGE WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT LIGHT
- Visually check generator belt and wiring. Turn ignition switch to ON position (engine not running). Charge light should illuminate. If light does not illuminate, check IGN 1 and IGN 4 fuses.
- Check battery cable circuit (Red wire) between battery positive terminal and starter solenoid contacts. Check fusible link circuit between starter solenoid contact and generator battery terminal.
- Check Pink wire circuit between ignition switch and instrument panel junction block located under center of instrument panel, directly in front of console.
- Check Pink wire circuit between instrument panel junction block and instrument cluster charge light bulb. Check Brown wire circuit between instrument cluster charge light bulb and underhood junction block located in engine compartment, on inner fender panel.
- Check Brown/White wire circuit between underhood junction block and generator terminal "L". Check instrument cluster, generator and ignition switch connections for poor contact.
CHARGE WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON AT ALL TIMES
- Visually check generator belt and wiring. Turn ignition switch to START position. Charge light should cycle on and off after engine starts.
- Check Brown wire circuit between instrument cluster charge light bulb and underhood junction block located in engine compartment, on inner fender panel.
- Check Brown/White wire circuit between underhood junction block and generator terminal "L". Check instrument cluster and generator connections for poor contact.
- Check for constant engine running at low RPM. Check for excessive electrical drain. Using a carbon pile load tester, perform generator load test. See «BATTERY/GENERATOR LOAD TEST»(ref-654-S08186402492000031300000) . Check for loose or broken drive belt.
BATTERY UNDERCHARGED
- Check battery ground circuit. Check battery cable wire circuit (Red) between battery positive terminal and starter solenoid contacts. Check fusible link wire between starter solenoid contact and generator battery terminal.
- Check for parasitic drains by performing parasitic load testing. See «PARASITIC LOAD TEST»(ref-654-S34898178862000031300000) . Check for constant engine running at low RPM. Check for excessive electrical drain. Using a carbon pile load tester, perform a generator load test. See «BATTERY/GENERATOR LOAD TEST»(ref-654-S08186402492000031300000) . Check for loose or broken drive belt. Check generator electrical connectors.
BATTERY OVERCHARGED
Check generator electrical connectors. If connectors are okay, replace generator.
LIGHTS DIM IDLING
- Check for constant engine running at low RPM. Check for excessive electrical drain. Using a carbon pile load tester, perform a generator load test. See «BATTERY/GENERATOR LOAD TEST»(ref-654-S08186402492000031300000) .
- Check fusible link wire circuit between starter solenoid contact and generator battery terminal. Check for loose or broken drive belt.
LIGHTS DIM OVER 1000 RPM
Check for loose or broken drive belt. Check for loose generator mounting bolts. Check generator electrical connectors.
NOISY GENERATOR
Check for loose drive belt. Check for loose generator mounting bolts. Check generator electrical connectors. If belt, mounting bolts and connectors are okay, replace generator.
GENERATOR OUTPUT EXCEEDS 16 VOLTS
Check generator electrical connectors. If connectors are okay, replace generator.
