Removal & Installation

Remove distributor cap with wiring attached. Unplug harness connector from distributor. Disconnect hose (if equipped). Remove mounting bolts and distributor. To install, rotate distributor shaft until drive tang aligns with slot on camshaft. Reverse removal procedure to complete installation. Adjust ignition timing. See ADJUSTMENTS article.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support front of vehicle. Remove right front wheel and inner fenderwell panel. Remove drive belts. Remove retaining bolt and crankshaft pulley. Remove crankshaft sensor retaining bolts and sensor. To install, reverse removal procedure. Use Loctite 270 on sensor bolts. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at end of article.

1. Relieve fuel pressure. See «FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE»(ref-15390-S42772389982000122900000) . Remove floor panel in trunk. Unplug wiring connector, remove hose clamps and disconnect fuel lines.
2. Tie fuel lines aside. Place special tool No. 8394397 on fuel pump to hold pump while unscrewing retaining nut. Remove retaining nut. CAUTION: Since fuel pump may spring out upon removal, use a safety chain or similar device.
3. Lift fuel pump out of tank. To install, lubricate fuel pump O-ring with petroleum jelly. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.

1. Relieve fuel pressure. See «FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE»(ref-15390-S42772389982000122900000) . Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel supply line at banjo fitting and fuel return line at pressure regulator. Disconnect vacuum hose at fuel pressure regulator.
2. Unplug electrical connectors from injectors. Remove bolts from fuel rail, but leave injectors in place. Remove injector "O" ring seals from intake manifold.
3. Remove fuel rail and injectors as an assembly. Remove injector clips. Remove injectors from fuel rail. To install injectors, lubricate injector "O" ring with petroleum jelly and reinstall. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.

Remove fuel rail. See FUEL RAIL & INJECTORS . Clean area around fuel pressure regulator. Disconnect vacuum hose from fuel pressure regulator. Remove retaining clip. Carefully pry fuel pressure regulator from fuel rail. To install, reverse removal procedure.

1. O2 sensor is mounted on the exhaust pipe, below exhaust manifold. Ensure sensor is free of contaminants. Avoid using cleaning solvents of any type.
2. Disconnect wiring from sensor before removal. Sensor may be difficult to remove when engine temperature is less than 120°F (49°C). Always use anti-seize compound on threads before installation. Tighten to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-15390-S16639241652000122900000) table.

1. Drain coolant and reinstall drain plug. Disconnect throttle cable and remove bracket from throttle housing. Unplug throttle position sensor connector. Disconnect automatic idle control valve hose from throttle body.
2. Remove turbo delivery pipe (if equipped). Disconnect coolant and vacuum hoses from throttle body. Remove throttle body mounting bolts and throttle body. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten throttle body bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-15390-S16639241652000122900000) table at end of article.

Unplug TPS connector. Remove screws and TPS. To install, reverse removal procedure. No adjustment is required after installation.

1. Release A/C compressor belt tensioner. Remove top pipe to oil cooler and clips securing pipe to radiator. Remove A/C compressor mounting bolts. Move compressor aside with hoses attached.
2. Remove solenoid valve mounted on radiator. Unplug fan electrical connectors and fan. Remove air intake hose to air cleaner, mass airflow meter and, turbocharger.
3. Disconnect turbo pressure pipe. Remove bolts securing oil pipe to turbo unit and cylinder head. Unbolt clutch slave cylinder. Disconnect oil line fitting from block and remove clip on inlet manifold. Remove exhaust pipe from turbocharger.
4. Unhook front rubber hangers to exhaust pipe. Remove bracket between turbocharger and oil pan. Remove and plug oil return line. Remove exhaust manifold and turbocharger as an assembly.
5. Separate turbocharger from exhaust manifold. Replace turbocharger mounting bolt and exhaust lock nuts. Tighten mounting nuts and bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-15390-S16639241652000122900000) table. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
