PCV System Saab 900 I

Testing & Diagnostics 1 illustration ~180 words

DESCRIPTION

Crankcase ventilation system is completely sealed from atmosphere. It includes a 3-way hose connecting nipple in valve cover, an oil trap and flame arrester in valve cover, a large hose from valve cover to air cleaner, and a small hose from valve cover to intake manifold.

The 3-way nipple has a restrictor in the port which connects to the large hose, and the hose sizes ensure proper crankcase ventilation under all conditions.

OPERATION

Crankcase gases flow through the small hose into the intake manifold under all conditions except full throttle. At full throttle, the larger hose has a higher vacuum level and pulls gases into the air cleaner for mixing with fresh intake air.

Note. Check plastic nipple at air filter and connecting hose for blockage. Clean and replace as necessary. Ensure no loose particles remain in system.

TESTING

Note. Testing information not available.

MAINTENANCE

Inspect all hoses and connections at 60,000 miles or 48 months and every year thereafter. Replace components as necessary to ensure proper operation.
