IDENTIFICATION

Use illustration for transaxle identification. (Scheme 1)

Scheme 1: IDENTIFICATION

SERVICE INTERVALS

On 900 Series, change fluid at 65,000 miles. On 9000 Series, change fluid at first 5000 miles, then every 30,000 miles thereafter.

Transaxle

  1. Park vehicle on level surface. Apply hand brake. Allow engine to idle at normal operating temperature. Slowly shift selector lever from Park to Neutral, then back to Park.
  2. Check fluid level. Fluid level should be between the MIN and MAX marks on dipstick. Use hot or cold markings on dipstick, depending on transmission fluid temperature. DO NOT overfill.

Differential

Fill plug hole is located on side of case. Fluid level should be to bottom of hole.

Use Dexron-II automatic transmission fluid.

900 Series

Set selector lever to Neutral. Ensure arm on transmission range switch is in neutral position and tighten adjustment nut. Ensure shift lever has same play in Reverse and Drive.

9000 Series

Loosen nut on adjustment mechanism in front of selector lever. Shift transmission lever to Neutral. Tighten adjustment nut to 53-88 INCH lbs. (6-10 N.m).

NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH

Shift selector lever to Neutral. Loosen switch retaining screws. Rotate switch housing to align lever with mark on switch housing. Tighten retaining screws.
