  1. Remove the battery cover and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Detach the hose to the secondary air injection pump check valve.
  3. Remove the secondary air injection pump distribution pipe from the rear bank on the exhaust manifold.
  4. Remove the connector from the bracket above the starter motor.
  5. Remove the bracket.
  6. Raise the car.
  7. Remove the drive belt cover.
  8. Unplug the generator connector.
  9. Unplug the oil pressure sensor connector.
  10. Remove the clip that secures the wiring harness to the generator.
  11. Unplug the starter motor connector.
  12. Remove the lower starter motor retaining bolt.
  13. Lower the car.
  14. Lift the wiring harness over the starter motor.
  15. Remove the upper starter motor retaining bolt.
  16. Lift out the starter motor up between the bulkhead and exhaust manifold.

  1. Clean then grease the contact surfaces and electrical connections of the starter motor with petroleum jelly, part no. 30 06 665, to prevent oxidation.
  2. Position the starter motor, lowering it between the exhaust manifold and bulkhead.
  3. Insert the lower starter motor bolt.
  4. Fit the upper starter motor bolt.
  5. Raise the car.
  6. Tighten the lower starter motor bolt.
  7. Plug in the starter motor connector.
  8. Plug in the generator connector.
  9. Plug in the oil pressure sensor connector.
  10. Fit the clip that secures the wiring harness to the generator.
  11. Fit the drive belt cover.
  12. Lower the car.
  13. Fit the bracket above the starter motor.
  14. Fit the connector to the bracket.
  15. Fit the secondary air injection pump distribution pipe onto the rear bank of the exhaust manifold.
  16. Fit the hose to the secondary air injection pump check valve.
  17. Connect the negative battery cable and fit the battery cover.
  18. Set the clock and reprogram the radio code.
  19. Carry out a function check.

  1. Remove lower panel from driver's side.
  2. Unplug the connector from the contact.
  3. Cut the cable tie.
  4. Press in the catch and pull down the contact.

  1. Replace the contact.
  2. Fit a new cable tie.
  3. Plug in the connector.
  4. Replace the lower panel on the driver's side.
