Check that the CD changer is properly mounted.

Scheme 4

Scheme 4: DTC B2650: Sound Controls. Faulty

The Balance, Fader, Bass or Treble control does not work.

  1. The position of the controls can be read using the diagnostic instrument.
  2. The diagnostic instrument shows the status of all the controls.
  3. The values of all controls should constantly vary between approx. -10 and +10 when the controls are turned between their end positions.

Diagnostic procedure

Change the front panel.

The following information is shown on SID

  1. B2670: RADIO LOCKED (main unit)
  2. B2670: RADIO CODE (main unit).

No sound at all.

The following information is shown on SID

  1. B2772: CD ERROR B0 (CD player in main unit)
  2. B2772: CDC ERROR B0 (CD changer).

The CD player in the main unit or CD changer does not work.

The CD player in the main unit or CD changer does not work when it becomes warm.

The CD player/CD changer has overheating protection.

RADIO LOCKED shown on SID.

There is no sound from the speakers.

See Changing the AUDIO SYSTEM

RADIO LOCKED shown on SID if main unit is "married" to the car. No sound from speakers.

RADIO CODE shown on SID if main unit is not "married" to the car. No sound from speakers.

It is not possible to "marry/divorce" the main unit.

For "marriage/divorce" programming to be permitted, a valid key must be in the ignition switch and turned to the ON position. Check that the key is valid by starting the engine.

Scheme 7

Scheme 7: Fault diagnosis strategy for electronic systems
  1. The customer's description of the problem constitutes a basis for the fault diagnosis strategy. If necessary, the customer must demonstrate the trouble on the car to avoid misunderstandings.
  2. In certain cases, the function may be correct. 2.a. Good product knowledge is required to decide this. 2.b. If the function is correct, this must be explained to the customer.
  3. If the function is judged to be faulty, the car should be repaired. Saab's fault diagnosis strategy assumes that the technician is familiar with the customer's description of the problem. So note the customer's complaint and any other observations on the job sheet.
  4. The technician obtains a readout of the diagnostic trouble codes from all systems. A malfunction in one system can often be caused by a fault in another system.
  5. The car may contain diagnostic trouble codes which are secondary faults or which have been incorrectly generated. 5.a. Compare the customer's complaint with the symptom descriptions for the various diagnostic trouble codes. EPSI has a fast search path for this. 5.b. If the symptom description for a diagnostic trouble code matches the customer's complaint, this diagnostic trouble code is probably caused by the primary fault. Repair as per instructions.
  6. If there is no match with diagnostic trouble codes or symptoms, the technician must diagnose the fault himself. 6.a. In EPSI, search under fault diagnosis on the basis of symptoms in the system where the fault has occurred. 6.b. If the symptom description in the current system matches the complaint, the right fault diagnosis description has probably been found. Repair as per instructions.
  7. Certain fault symptoms can be remedied by reprogramming the control module. 7.a. Does the customer complaint stem from a known software problem in a programmable control module? 7.b. Reprogram the control module following the instructions in SPS.
  8. If there is no match with diagnostic trouble codes or symptoms, the technician must diagnose the fault himself. A final check must be carried out after the repair. Good technical product knowledge is required to solve this type of problem.
  9. The car is ready.

Scheme 8

Scheme 8: No sound. The SID unit displays audio information.

No sound.

SID shows audio information.

A click is heard from the speakers when the audio system is switched off.

Poor radio reception.

The cassette player and CD player work normally.

Note that the glass-mounted mobile phone antenna on the rear window can cause a deterioration in radio reception.

Poor radio reception on FM when the electrically heated rear window is on.

Uniform noise level.

Tips for fault diagnosis

Check the electrically heated rear window visually as follows

darken the rear window by covering it with, for instance, a blanket. Switch the electrically heated rear window on and look for sparks on the window.

If a fault is found, repair the rear window with contact paint.

Replace the rear window if necessary.

Scheme 9

Scheme 9: No sound from one of the speakers

No sound from one of the speakers.

Speaker test: 4 channels.

Start the speaker test by holding down the RADIO button when the main unit is switched on.

IMPORTANTCheck the balance and fader control settings.

No sound on one of the two channels from the CD changer. Both channels are working for the CD player, radio and cassette player.

The following information is shown on SID

  1. CDC LOCKED (CD changer)
  2. CDC CODE (CD changer)

No sound at all.
