Installing backrest frame
1. Install wiring harness for backrest. Refer to 97 56 19 Removing and installing wiring for backrest - as of MY 2003 (All Models) .
2. Install side airbag. Refer to 69 63 19 Removing and installing side airbag - as of MY 2003 (All Models) .
3. Install motors for lumbar adjustment > 723619 Removing and installing motor for lumbar adjustment - "Installing" .
4. Install lumbar support > 723419 Removing and installing lumbar support - "Installing" .
5. Install padding for backrest. Refer to 74 17 19 Removing and installing padding for front backrest - as of MY 2003 (All Models) .

6. Engage backrest at inner side for installation of the wiring harnesses -arrow-. Make sure that the backrest cannot tilt backward or forward. (Scheme 84)
7. Push seat cushion away inward -Arrows A- .

8. Push wire harnesses down through seat frame -Arrows B-. (Scheme 85)

9. Engage backrest into the centering bushings at outer side -arrows- and screw in both fastening screws but do not tighten. (Scheme 86)
Note. Make sure that the plastic sleeve is inserted between the top centering bushing and the backrest.

10. Using a screwdriver, lever inner side of backrest outward -Arrow A-, then shift backrest until bores engage on the centering bushings -B-. (Scheme 87)

11. Screw in both fastening screws on inner side -3-, then tighten fastening screws on both sides -3, 4- --> Tightening torque: 34.5 (26 ftlb.) Nm. (Scheme 88)

12. Insert ground plug of side airbag -1- and central plug of backrest -2- into seat wiring harness until they can be felt to engage. (Scheme 89)

13. Clip airbag plug onto spring core -Arrow A- until lock -B- can be felt to engage. (Scheme 90)
14. Join airbag connectors -Arrow C- until the lock -D- can be felt to engage. (Scheme 91)

16. Install inner and outer seat trim > 721619 Removing and installing front seat trim - "Installing" .
17. Install backrest cover > 722619 Removing and installing cover for backrest - "Installing" .
