General instructions/safety instructions

WARNINGDanger of injury when wiper motor starts. Danger of injury to hands and fingers when working on wiper mechanism with engine running! Make sure to switch ignition off and disconnect the power supply to the wiper motor.
CAUTIONRisk of damage to paintwork on bonnet and wiper arms. The wiper arms may touch the bonnet if bonnet is open and wiper motor is running. Do not open bonnet/engine compartment lid when wiper arms are raised - damage to paintwork and mechanism.

Note. When bonnet lock is unlocked, the wiper motor is switched off or remains in parking position and cannot be switched on! This applies only for speeds of less than 5 km/h; the wiper can be actuated again in higher speeds for safety reasons.

CAUTIONDanger of damage due to improper handling of batteries and control module plug connections! Never disconnect battery with engine running. Never start engine if battery terminal clamps are not connected securely. Never pull off or push on plug connections for the control modules or other electronic components when the ignition is switched on. Always disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and pull off all plug connections to the vehicle electrical system control module when carrying out welding work on the vehicle.

Possible causes of fault

Note. The 'possible causes of fault' that are responsible for the fault are listed here. Please note that in certain circumstances further faults can be stored in the fault memory after troubleshooting (e.g. if plugs are disconnected). After carrying out repairs, read out the fault memory of all control modules and erase any faults.

Fault type

The following fault types are possible

  1. No display
  2. Upper limit value exceeded
  3. Lower limit value not reached
  4. Mechanical fault
  5. No signal/communication
  6. No or incorrect basic setting/adaptation
  7. Short circuit to B+
  8. Short circuit to ground
  9. Implausible signal
  10. Open circuit/short circuit to ground
  11. Open circuit/short circuit to B+
  12. Open circuit
  13. Electrical fault in electric circuit
  14. Please read out fault memory
  15. Faulty
  16. Cannot be checked now

Fault status

The following status types are possible

  1. present
  2. not present

This information should be saved using the Save key [F4] and printed out.

Extract coding

Under the menu item "Extract coding" you can read out which equipment features are activated and which are not.

The following equipment features can be read out

  1. Wiper with rain sensor
  2. Wiper with rain/light sensor

Modify coding

Under the menu item "Modify coding" you can adapt the wiper motor control module to the current vehicle equipment.

After the wiper motor with control module is replaced, the coding must be adapted to the vehicle equipment so that the control module knows which sensor it can find on the sensor cable.

The following equipment features can be changed

  1. Wiper with rain sensor
  2. Wiper with rain/light sensor

VEHICLE CODING CHART

Note. When the coding is changed in the menu item "Modify coding", the ignition must always be switched off afterwards and the key removed. After the ignition is switched on again, the new coding of the control module is updated and the stored faults can be erased. If it is not possible to communicate with the wiper motor control module in the headlight, this may be caused by incorrect coding. Remedy: Re-code the control module and restart connection setup using the Tester. Code control module correctly.

Note. If the coding does not match the vehicle equipment, faults will be displayed that are not really present. The wiper motor control module does not function without a valid coding entry.

  1. An incorrect vehicle type was selected on the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588.
  2. Power supply on the wiper motor is not OK.
  3. Communication problem (K lead) with the gateway
  4. Communication problem (CAN Infotainment) with the wiper motor control module

Possible cause of fault

  1. Wiper motor/control module faulty
  2. Windscreen wiper on
  1. Wiper blades, wiper arms or wiper mechanism frozen or blocked
  2. Wiper blades, wiper arms or wiper mechanism restricted due to build-up of snow, ice or incorrect installation in wiper area
  3. Heavy load due to snow or stiff mechanism

Note. This fault is set by the control module if more than 50 surmountable or unsurmountable blockages are detected (power consumption to speed). This may be caused by a build-up of snow during a heavy fall of snow.

  1. No communication possible via CAN

  1. No signals/communication with steering column switch via CAN Infotainment, gateway or CAN comfort

Note. Different windscreen types are used, green glass and insulating glass with infrared protective film. The rain/light sensors must be assigned correctly according to the Spare Parts Catalogue "(PET)". The insulating glass can be recognized by the small 'IR' stamp for infrared.
