Preliminary work for heat exchanger

Refer to 92 19 19 Removing and installing wiper link - as of MY 2005 (All Models).
Remove left and right dome strut.
Scheme 87
1. Release the two fastening clamps for the coolant hoses of the heat exchanger and slide them back over the hoses.
2. Carefully lift off the cover of the heat exchanger and remove from the body.
Note. If the cover of the heat exchanger is damaged during removal, it must be replaced.

3. Undo the two fastening screws -1- and carefully lift the heat exchanger up and out. (Scheme 88)
Scheme 89
1. Carefully insert heat exchanger from above into the heating/air-conditioning unit and secure with the fastening screws -1-. --> Tightening torque: 1.0 ftlb.. (Scheme 89)
Note. If the cover of the heat exchanger is damaged during removal, it must be replaced.
Scheme 90
2. Check the seal at the cover of the heat exchanger and repair using a commercially available butyl adhesive or replace if necessary.
Scheme 91
3. Push the cover over the connections of the heat exchanger and press into place against the body, making sure it fits securely.
4. Push coolant hoses onto the heat exchanger and secure with fastening clamps.

Remove battery cover. Refer to 27 12 19 Removing and installing battery cover - as of MY 2005 (All Models).
Removing the battery. Refer to 27 06 19 Removing and installing battery - as of MY 2005 (All Models).
Removing heat exchanger hose
1. Release the two top fastening clamps for the coolant hoses of the heat exchanger and slide them back over the hoses.
2. Remove the two bottom spring-band clamps using the assembly tool for spring-band clamps NR.72 .
Installing heat exchanger hose
1. Push coolant hoses onto the heat exchanger and secure with the two fastening clamps.
2. Fit the two bottom spring-band clamps using the assembly tool for spring-band clamps NR.72 .
Subsequent work for heat exchanger hose
Installing battery. Refer to 27 06 19 Removing and installing battery - as of MY 2005 (All Models).
Fill in coolant. Refer to 19 38 17 Draining and filling in coolant - as of MY 2005 (All Models).
Install battery cover. Refer to 27 12 19 Removing and installing battery cover - as of MY 2005 (All Models).
Carry out work instruction after disconnecting the battery. Refer to 27 06 IN External power connection, jump lead starting - as of MY 2005 (All Models).
Preliminary work for front footwell outlet vent
Remove the small front covers for the center console at the left and right. Refer to 68 14 19 Removing and installing center console cover - as of MY 2005 (All Models).
Removing front footwell outlet vent

1. Unscrew the fastening screw at the left -1- and right -2- of the heater/air-conditioning unit. (Scheme 93)

2. Pull the footwell outlet vent down out of the heater/air-conditioning unit and remove through the driver's side.
Scheme 96
1. Slide the footwell outlet vent in under the heater/air-conditioning unit through the driver's side and push it onto the heater/air-conditioning unit.

2. Screw the footwell outlet vent to the heater/air-conditioning unit with the two fastening screws at the left -1- and right -2-. --> Tightening torque: 1 (0.5 ftlb.) Nm. (Scheme 96)
Subsequent work for front footwell outlet vent
Fit the small front covers for the center console at the left and right. Refer to 68 14 19 Removing and installing center console cover - as of MY 2005 (All Models).
