Removing ignition switch
Installation Location

1. Carefully lift up rubber sleeve on the ignition switch using a plastic spatula, for example, and remove it.

2. Turn union nut using a narrow plastic spatula, for example, or using the special wrench T10152 tool and unscrew the ring from the ignition switch.
3. Press ignition switch inwards and remove towards the bottom.

4. Release electric plug -a- and pull it off the ignition switch. (Scheme 4)

1. Connect plug on ignition switch until it clicks into place.

2. Position ignition switch in the instrument panel from below. Position union nut, re-adjust switch and tighten union nut using wrench T10152 . --> Tightening torque: 1.1 ftlb.
3. Place cover in position and slide it over the ignition switch, paying attention to the fitted shape.
Preliminary work
1. Remove rear cover Refer to 51 94 19 Removing and installing cover for rear underbody - as of MY 2005 (All Models) .
Removing ignition coils
1. Slide rubber sleeves of ignition coil plug connections upwards.
2. Release and pull off plugs on each ignition coil.

3. Unscrew two M6 x 25 fastening screws -arrow- each per ignition coil and remove the six ignition coils individually. (Scheme 7)
Installing ignition coils
1. Insert ignition coils into the spark-plug recesses and tighten using two M6 x 25 fastening screws each. --> Tightening torque: 10 (7.5 ftlb.) Nm
2. Mount cable plug to the individual ignition coils. The connectors must engage audibly.
3. Slide rubber sleeves over the connectors.
Subsequent work
1. Install rear cover Refer to 51 94 19 Removing and installing cover for rear underbody - as of MY 2005 (All Models) .
Preliminary work for removing hall sender
1. If the hall sender for cylinder bank 1 -3 is removed, the rear wall cover must be removed Refer to 55 59 19 Removing and installing rear wall cover - as of MY 2005 (All Models) .
Removing hall sender

> Raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.
1. Release and disconnect cable plug -1-. (Scheme 8)

2. Remove hall sender -3- by unscrewing the Torx screw (M6 x 16) -2-. (Scheme 8)

1. Replace O-ring. Lightly grease O-ring -arrow- with Optimol MP3. (Scheme 10)
2. Fit hall sender -3- by screwing in and tightening the Torx screw (M6 x 16) -2-. --> Tightening torque: 7.5 ftlb. (Scheme 8)
3. Push on cable plug -1-. (Scheme 8)
Subsequent work for installing hall sender
1. If the hall sender for cylinder bank 1-3 has been removed, the rear wall cover must be installed Refer to 55 59 19 Removing and installing rear wall cover - as of MY 2005 (All Models) .

Preliminary work for removing spark plugs

Removing spark plugs

> Only use the approved tool spark plug socket wrench NR.14 and 3/8" extension, 16° moveable NR.15 .
4. Unscrew spark plugs using the tool spark plug socket wrench NR.14 with 3/8" extension, 16° movable NR.15 .
Installing spark plugs

> Only use the approved tool spark plug socket wrench NR.14 and 3/8" extension, 16° moveable NR.15 .
1. Install spark plugs using spark plug socket wrench NR.14 and 3/8" extension, 16° moveable NR.15 . The tightening torque is reduced if the spark plugs are removed and installed again for another activity. Do not get spark plugs mixed up during reinstallation.

Preliminary work for removing knock sensor
1. Place protective covers on the vehicle to avoid damaging the body.
2. Remove intake-air distributor Refer to 24 46 20 Removing and installing intake-air distributor - as of MY 2005 (All Models) .
Removing knock sensor
1. Release and disconnect cable plug -1-. see scheme 16
2. Mark installation position of knock sensor so that cable plug can be reconnected after installation.

3. Remove knock sensor -3- by unscrewing the Torx screw (M8 x 35) -2-. see scheme 16
Installing knock sensor
1. Insert knock sensor -3- in the original position and then screw in and tighten the Torx screw (M8 x 35) -2-. --> Tightening torque: 15 ftlb.. see scheme 17
2. Push on cable plug -1-. see scheme 17
Subsequent work for installing knock sensor
1. Install intake-air distributor for the relevant cylinder bank Refer to 24 46 20 Removing and installing intake-air distributor - as of MY 2005 (All Models) .
