Transfer Case - Servicing: Maintenance Pontiac Vibe I

SERVICE INTERVALS

Manufacturer recommends changing the transfer case fluid every 15,000 miles when towing regularly.

CHECKING FLUID LEVELS

Remove the transfer case oil level/fill plug (2) from the transfer case. (Scheme 1) The oil level should be even with the bottom of the oil level/fill plug hole. Reinstall fill plug. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.

Manufacturer recommends GM PN 12345977 (U.S.), GM PN 10953482 (Canada) or SAE 80W-90 GL-5 gear lubricant.

DRAINING & REFILLING

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove fill plug (2) and drain plug (1) from transfer case. (Scheme 1) Allow fluid to drain. Reinstall drain plug. Tighten to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-155003-S17383434242003060400000).
  2. Fill transfer case through oil fill plug hole to specified capacity using recommended fluid. See «RECOMMENDED FLUIDS»(ref-155003-S21765178372003060400000). Ensure fluid is level with bottom edge of fill plug hole. Reinstall fill plug. Tighten to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-155003-S17383434242003060400000).
