Removal Procedure

Important: These procedures are applicable to both of the antenna cables in this vehicle.

1. Remove the sunshade. Refer to «SUNSHADE REPLACEMENT»(ref-180885-S23315878532005073000000) .
2. Remove the sunshade anchor. Refer to «SUNSHADE ANCHOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-180885-S36757955772005073000000) .
3. Remove the trim panel from the right cowl side. Refer to «TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT -- COWL SIDE»(ref-180885-S24608797792005073000000) .
4. Remove the garnish molding from the windshield. Refer to «GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT -- WINDSHIELD PILLAR»(ref-180885-S31131957902005073000000) .
5. Remove the bolt that secures the antenna cable extension to the roof. This bolt is located under the right front corner of the headliner.
6. Remove the following components from the vehicle: The antenna cable The antenna cable extension

1. Install the following components to the vehicle: The antenna cable The antenna cable extension Install the antenna cable to the instrument panel carrier.
2. Install the bolt which secures the antenna cable extension to the roof. Tighten Tighten the bolt to 3.2 N.m (28 lb in).
3. Install the trim panel at the right cowl side. Refer to «TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT -- COWL SIDE»(ref-180885-S24608797792005073000000) .
4. Install the garnish molding to the windshield. Refer to «GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT -- WINDSHIELD PILLAR»(ref-180885-S31131957902005073000000) .
5. Install the sunshade anchor. Refer to «SUNSHADE ANCHOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-180885-S36757955772005073000000) .
6. Install the sunshade. Refer to «SUNSHADE REPLACEMENT»(ref-180885-S23315878532005073000000) .
7. Install the radio. Refer to «RADIO REPLACEMENT»(ref-181063-S21054446972005073000000) .

1. Remove the windshield garnish molding. Refer to «GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT -- WINDSHIELD PILLAR»(ref-180885-S31131957902005073000000) .
2. Remove the sunshade from the headliner. Refer to «SUNSHADE REPLACEMENT»(ref-180885-S23315878532005073000000) .
3. Remove the door edge molding from the door opening. Refer to «TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT -- SIDE FRONT DOOR (AZTEK)»(ref-180841-S28883763902005072900000) or «TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT -- SIDE FRONT DOOR (RENDEZVOUS)»(ref-180841-S02315427152005072900000) .
4. Lower the front corner of the headliner. Refer to «HEADLINER REPLACEMENT (AZTEK)»(ref-180885-S11075378952005073000000) or «HEADLINER REPLACEMENT (RENDEZVOUS)»(ref-180885-S26956754922005073000000) .
5. Disconnect the wire harness from the roof antenna.
6. Remove the antenna nut.
7. Remove the antenna from the roof.

1. Attach the antenna base to the roof and fasten the antenna nut. Tighten Tighten the nut to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
2. Connect the electrical connector to the antenna.
3. Push the headliner back into place. Refer to «TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT -- SIDE FRONT DOOR (AZTEK)»(ref-180841-S28883763902005072900000) or «TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT -- SIDE FRONT DOOR (RENDEZVOUS)»(ref-180841-S02315427152005072900000) .
4. Attach the sunshade to the headliner. Refer to «SUNSHADE REPLACEMENT»(ref-180885-S23315878532005073000000) .
5. Attach the windshield garnish molding. Refer to «GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT -- WINDSHIELD PILLAR»(ref-180885-S31131957902005073000000) .

Scheme 41

1. Remove the overhead console door (3).
2. Reach your hand through the access opening and disconnect the electrical connectors (1) for the switches.
3. Remove the OnStar® button assembly (2).

Scheme 42

1. Reach your hand through the access opening in order to install the OnStar® button assembly (2) and connect the electrical connectors (1).
2. Install the overhead console door (3). Install the screws securing the overhead console door. Tighten Tighten the screws to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

Important: The vehicle communication interface module (VCIM) has a specific set of unique numbers that tie the module to each vehicle. These numbers, the 10-digit station identification and the 11-digit electronic serial number, are used by the National Cellular Network and OnStar® to identify the specific vehicle. Because these numbers are tied to the vehicle identification number of the vehicle, you must never exchange these parts with those of another vehicle.

1. Remove the right insulator panel. Refer to «CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT -- RIGHT»(ref-180879-S08053438362005073000000) .
2. Remove the instrument panel compartment. Refer to «COMPARTMENT REPLACEMENT -- INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P)»(ref-180879-S07486245002005073000000) .
3. Remove the screws securing the VCIM bracket to the instrument panel metal brace.
4. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
5. Disconnect the cell antenna coaxial cable from the VCIM. Important: The old VCIM must be returned for core credit.
6. Remove the VCIM from the bracket and the vehicle.

1. When replacing a VCIM, record the 11-digit electronic serial number (ESN) and the 10-digit station identification (STID) number from the label on the new VCIM.
2. Connect the electrical connectors to the module.
3. Connect the cell antenna coaxial cable to the VCIM.
4. Install the screws that secure the bracket to the instrument panel brace. Tighten Tighten the screws to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
5. Install the I/P compartment. Refer to «COMPARTMENT REPLACEMENT -- INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P)»(ref-180879-S07486245002005073000000) .
6. Install the right insulator panel. Refer to «CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT -- RIGHT»(ref-180879-S08053438362005073000000) . Important: After replacing the vehicle communication interface module, you must reconfigure the OnStar® system. Failure to reconfigure the system will result in an additional customer visit for repair. In addition, pressing and holding the white dot button on the keypad will NOT reset this version of the OnStar® system. This action will cause a DTC to set.
7. Install the scan tool. Use the special functions menu in order to perform the OnStar® setup procedure for this vehicle.
8. Move the vehicle to an open area that is away from tall buildings and with a clear view of unobstructed sky. Allow the vehicle to run for 10 minutes.
9. Use the ID information menu on the scan tool to access the new station ID (STID) and the electronic serial number (ESN) from the new VCIM.
10. Press the blue OnStar® button to connect to the OnStar® Call Center and perform the following procedure: Tell the advisor that this vehicle has received a new VCIM. Ask the advisor to add the new STID and the ESN to update the customer's account. Follow any additional instructions from the OnStar® advisor. Ask the advisor to activate the OnStar® Personal Calling feature, if available.
11. The default language for voice recognition in the generation 5 OnStar® module is English. To change the language resident in the module, refer to Programming.

1. Remove the overhead console door (1).
2. Reach your hand through the access opening and disconnect the microphone connector (2) from the jumper harness.
3. Unsnap the microphone bracket from the overhead console.
4. Disconnect the microphone 2-way connector from the mating 2-way connector.

Scheme 47

1. Reach your hand through the access opening and install the microphone to the overhead console at the left rear corner of the overhead console.
2. Snap the microphone bracket to the overhead console.
3. Connect the microphone connector (2) to the mating 2-way connector.
4. Install the overhead console door (1). Install the screws securing the overhead console door. Tighten Tighten the screws to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
