Testing & Diagnostics 2 illustrations ~146 words

INTRODUCTION

CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. (Scheme 2) If spark occurs, repair open circuit in wiring harness. If spark does not occur, replace ignition coil.

Ignition Coil Resistance (3.0L)

Ignition coil resistance test procedure is not available from manufacturer. Use appropriate IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE table under IGNITION COIL to determine correct coil resistance.

IDLE SPEED & IGNITION TIMING

Ensure idle speed and ignition timing are set to specification. For adjustment procedures, see appropriate ADJUSTMENTS in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section.

SUMMARY

If no faults were found while performing BASIC TESTING , proceed to appropriate G - TESTS W/ CODES in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section. If no hard codes are found in self-diagnostics, proceed to appropriate TESTS W/O CODES in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section for diagnosis by symptom (i.e., ROUGH IDLE, NO-START, etc.) or intermittent diagnostic procedures.
