[1] compression tester MULLER 203102-100

[2] dummy spark plug (-).0188-U

Removing

WarningRespect the safety and cleanliness recommendations that are specific to high pressure diesel injection (HDi) engines

Disconnect the battery negative terminal

Drain the cooling system

Remove the windscreen wiper mechanism

Remove the windscreen wiper mechanism

Remove

  • The coolant/exhaust gas heat exchanger and EGR electrovalve assembly
  • The pre-heater plugs

Check

Fit the tool [2]to cylinder N° 1; tighten to 1 daN.m

NoteUse a mirror to connect the flexible pipe of the tool [2]on the dummy plug of the tool [2]

Connect the tool [1]to the tool [2]

Disconnect the engine ECU

Reconnect the battery negative terminal

Operate the starter for 10 seconds

The pressure value in the cylinder should be 20 ± 5 bars (for a new engine)

Remove

  • Tool [1] from tool [2]
  • Tool [2] from cylinder no. 1

Apply the same procedure for cylinders 2, 3 and 4

NoteThe difference between two cylinders should not be more than 5 bars

Disconnect the battery negative terminal

Reconnect the engine ECU

Refitting

WarningAt refitting, all the removed seals must be replaced with new seals

Refit

  • The pre-heater plugs
  • The coolant/exhaust gas heat exchanger and EGR electrovalve assembly
  • The windscreen wiper mechanism

Fill and bleed the engine cooling circuit

Reconnect the battery negative terminal
