Description

Engine coolant temperature sensor

NoteThermistor with connector (1) 2 way brown

The thermistor relays the engine temperature to the 8010 unit by measuring the coolant temperature

Its electrical resistance is of the PTC type (Positive Temperature Coefficient); this resistance increases as the temperature increases

Coolant thermostat

The thermostat measures the engine temperature via the thermistor

The ECU carries out the following functions

  • Controls the fans via relays
  • Illuminates the warning lights on the instrument panel (stop + maximum water temperature)
  • Cuts out the air conditioning function via relay 8015 (a)
  • Transmits Engine Hot information to the vehicle air conditioning unit (a)
  • Controls the post-cooling (a)
  • Controls the fans at high speed in the case of refrigerant pressure greater than 17 bars (a)

Note(a) according to equipment

-9for vehicles fitted with temperature regulation: transmits Engine Hot (48 °) information to the air conditioning ECU by earthing this outletC.O.
2A10controls the high speed fan by earthing this outlet12 V
2B11vehicles with air conditioning: cuts out the air conditioning compressor by earthing this outlet12 V
-12not used-
6B13vehicles with air conditioning: input of +ve 12 V information from the pressure switch this information indicates that the coolant pressure has reached 17 bar(s) this information triggers the high speed fan controlC.O.
4A - 5A7 - 14the ECU delivers a constant 1 mA current and measures the resistance of the thermistor which is connected between these terminals a break or short circuit between these terminals sets the fans to high speed and prevents the air conditioning operation0≤R≤<5000 Ω
