When the ignition is switched on, the airbag telltale illuminates for a few seconds, then extinguishes.
During a front end impact, the decelerometer in the airbag control unit determines the deceleraton of the vehicle. Factors that influence this deceleration are the vehicle speed, the angle of impact, and the compressibility and mass of the vehicle and the object that is struck.
