| Trouble code 51 is only present before the control unit is programmed (delivery state). It does not indicate the presence of a fault, but ensures that the system telltale remains activated after the control unit is installed in a vehicle for the first time, and until the control unit has been programmed correctly. During programming, the control unit receives information about whether the vehicle is equipped with an airbag system with one squib circuit (driver only) or two squib circuits (driver and front passenger).
