Subject: Basic Ignition Setting
Models: Senator-B with 30 NE Engines in Connection with - OPEL Electronic 4-Speed Automatic Transmission (AW 03-71 LE).
This engine/transmission combination is equipped with a map-controlled ignition system EZ 11.
This ignition system in maintenance-free. It is only necessary to check or adjust the basic ignition setting in the event of repairs.
Check or adjust ignition firing point:
· Engine at operating temperature (oil temperature approx. 80° C/176° F)
· Engine off
· Disconnect 6-pole plug from throttle switch. Short circuit contacts in throttle switch plug term. 4 (battery voltage, rd/bl), term. 6 (idle contact, br/gn), term. 5 (full-load contact, br/bl).
· Start engine
· Engine speed 700 rpm to 1000 rpm.
· The ignition firing point must be 10° ± 2° CA before TDC, that is the arkings on the pulley must be in alignment with the markings on the timing ase. If they deviate, correct basic setting by turning the distributor.
· Remove jumper from the throttle switch plug and reconnect plug.
· Erase fault memory of transmission control - unit - see note.
Allocation of 6-pole throttle switch:
1 = Throttle potentiometer (+), to automatic transmission control unit
2 = Ground, throttle potentiometer
3 = Throttle signal
4 = Voltage supply (12 V)
5 = Full-load contact
| 6 = Idle contact | Fehler! Datei kann nicht geöffnet werden! | ||

Note:
The electronic transmission control requires a throttle potentiometer (6-pole design)for exact load detection. The self-diagnosis system in the transmission control unit identifies the short-circuiting of the throttle switch as a fault and stores this as fault code 21 in the fault memory (throttle potentiometer, voltage too high).
After each basic ignition setting, the fault memory of the transmission control unit must therefore be erased. To do this, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for approx. 1 minute.
Time Allowance: The necessary time allowances are published in the Labour Times on microfiche.
