An electronic crash sensor integrated into the airbag control unit evaluates a collision to decide it and when the airbag should be deployed and then carries out deployment if required.
The airbag is deployed in a head - on collision with up to 30° offset.
The airbag is deployed at speeds above approx. 30 km/h (18 mph).
At lower speeds, deployment is avoided, for then passengers are adequately protected by safety belts.
Likewise, the airbag is not triggered in a side or rear - end collision.
To prevent unintentional deployment, there is a sating sensor.
It operates mechanically and is monitored electronically.
If all preconditions for airbag deployment are fulfilled, the airbag is deployed.
