Design:
Power steering is designed to reduce the steering wheel turning effort by utilizing hydraulic pressure to boost the normal torque developed by the steering gear.
The power steering gear unit incorporates a power piston and sector shaft as an integral part of the steering gear. A control valve is built into the steering gear housing.
The oil pump uses the power of the engine to send hydraulic fluid to the steering gear. An oil pressure relief valve and an oil flow relief valve are installed in the oil pump. The oil flow valve controls the hydraulic fluid volume within the hydraulic system, by preventing excessive fluid from entering the system and causing harmful fluid heat build - up. The oil pressure relief valve controls the maximum pressure in the pump.
The oil reservoir stores and filters the hydraulic fluid.
