Function
During a front end impact, a crash sensor in the airbag control unit determines the deceleration of the vehicle. Factors that influence this deceleration are the vehicle speed, the angle of impact, and the compressibility and mass of the vehicle and the object that is struck.
A microprocessor in the control unit compares the deceleration rate with preset data, then deploys the airbag if a set limit is exceeded.
