Tie Rod Replacement Opel Agila B

Remove

  1. 1. Raise vehicle to suitable working height
  2. 2. Remove front road wheel • Remove 4x bolt
  3. 3. Release tie rod end from tie rod • Loosen nut
  4. 4. Release tie rod end from steering knuckle • Remove split pin (2), nut (1) • Use Remover KM-507-C
  1. 5. Remove tie rod end from tie rod • Rotate tie rod end anti clockwise until released from tie rod

Note. Record the number of turns of the tie rod end when removing, so the new tie rod end can be installed to the same number. This will assist with toe adjustments.

  1. 6. Remove nut (1) from tie rod • Rotate nut anti clockwise until released from tie rod

Note. Observe the position of the nut on the tie rod before removing. This will assist with toe adjustments.

  1. 7. Remove folding cover from tie rod • Remove large clip (2) from folding cover inner end • Remove small clip (1) from folding cover outer end • Withdraw folding cover from tie rod
  1. 8. Raise vehicle
  2. 9. Remove tie rod (1) from steering gear (2) • Counter hold steering gear, using a suitable tool, then rotate tie rod anti clockwise to release

Install

  1. 10. Install new tie rod (1) with new lock washer to steering gear (2) • Counter hold steering gear, using a suitable tool, then rotate tie rod clockwise to secure 93 Nm
  1. 11. Lower vehicle to suitable working height
  2. 12. Install folding cover to tie rod • Apply suitable grease to steering gear • Install new large clip (2) to folding cover inner end • Install new small clip (1) to folding cover outer end
  1. 13. Install new nut (1) to tie rod • Rotate nut clockwise to original position on tie rod

Note. Install the nut to its original position on the tie rod. This will assist with toe adjustments.

  1. 14. Install tie rod end to tie rod • Rotate tie rod end clockwise to original position on tie rod

Note. Install tie rod end by the same number of turns recorded when removed. This will assist with toe adjustments.

  1. 15. Secure tie rod end to steering knuckle • Install nut (1) 45 Nm • Tighten nut 60° max, to align nut slot, then install new split pin (2) – Bend split pin as shown
  2. 16. Secure tie rod end to tie rod • Tighten nut 45 Nm
  1. 17. Install front wheel • Install 4x bolt 85 Nm
  2. 18. Check and adjust front wheel alignment – see “Wheel Alignment Values”
