PRE-ALIGNMENT CHECKS

Note. Prior to performing wheel alignment, perform preliminary visual and mechanical inspection of wheels, tires and suspension components. See ALIGNMENT THEORY/OPERATION article in the WHEEL ALIGNMENT section.

TOE-IN (FRONT & REAR)

Loosen jam nut on inner tie rod. Adjust toe to specification by turning inner tie rod. DO NOT twist boots (if equipped). Tighten nuts to 45 ft. lbs. (61 N.m). (Scheme 2)

CASTER (FRONT)

  1. Loosen ( DO NOT remove) one front outer nut and inner nut on top strut mounting tower. Remove remaining outer nut and washer over oval hole. Raise vehicle until outer strut stud has cleared hole.
  2. With an 11/32" drill bit, drill one hole in front and one behind outer strut hole. File excess metal between holes to elongate front to rear. Reassemble strut and adjust caster angle to specifications. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (24 N.m). (Scheme 3)

CAMBER (FRONT)

Camber Loosen strut-to-knuckle mounting nuts. Install Camber Adjust (J-29862) and adjust to proper specifications. Tighten nuts to 144 ft. lbs. (195 N.m). (Scheme 4)

CAMBER (REAR)

Loosen both strut-to-knuckle nuts. Install Camber Adjuster J-29862 and set camber to proper specification. Tighten nuts to 144 ft. lbs. (195 N.m). (Scheme 5)

TOE-IN (REAR)

Loosen from and rear inside control arm mounting bolts. Pry between rear control arm mounting bolts and rear support assembly until proper toe settings are obtained. Tighten to 66 ft. lbs.(90 N.m). (Scheme 6)
