Cranking Voltage Normal
- Does engine crank normally? If yes, then go to next step. If no, go to step 3 .
- Does engine start? If yes, then starter is okay. Inspection end. If no, starter is okay. Perform further diagnosis of engine mechanical or engine control system. See «ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L»(ref-163594) article in ENGINES. See «ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM - TITAN»(ref-169472) article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Does starter turn? If yes, then check ring gear and starter drive pinion. Once resolved, perform battery test again. If no, then check "B" terminal circuit see «DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 1, CHECK "B" TERMINAL CIRCUIT»(ref-168490-S32193918052004110900000) .
- Is terminal "B" circuit okay? If yes, go to next step. If no, then repair as needed.
- Check "S" terminal circuit, see «DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 2, CHECK "S" TERMINAL CIRCUIT»(ref-168490-S33717129722004110900000) . Is terminal "S" circuit okay? If yes, then go to next step. If no, then repair as needed.
- Does engine turn freely by hand? If yes, then replace starter motor. If no, then perform further diagnosis of engine mechanical or powertrain mechanism. See «ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L»(ref-163594) article in ENGINES.
Cranking Voltage Low
Compare the engine temperature and the cranking voltage with the specifications. See MINIMUM SPECIFICATION OF CRANKING VOLTAGE REFERENCING COOLANT TEMPERATURE .
- Is voltage less than the specified value? If yes, then go to step 3 . If no, go to next step.
- Does starter turn smoothly? If yes, starter is okay. Inspection end. If no, then go to next step.
- Check "B" terminal circuit, see «DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 1, CHECK "B" TERMINAL CIRCUIT»(ref-168490-S32193918052004110900000) . Is "B" terminal circuit okay? If yes, go to next step. If no, then repair as needed.
- Check "S" terminal circuit, see «DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 2, CHECK "S" TERMINAL CIRCUIT»(ref-168490-S33717129722004110900000) . Is "S" terminal circuit okay? If yes, then go to next step. If no, then repair as needed.
- Does engine turn freely by hand? If yes, then replace starter motor. If no, then perform further diagnosis of engine mechanical or powertrain mechanism. See «ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L»(ref-163594) article in ENGINES.
