Camshaft Position Sensor (PHASE)
Refer to CAMSHAFT in ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L article.
Use this procedure to check the overall function of the three way catalyst (manifold). During this check, a 1st trip DTC might not be confirmed.
WITH GST

- Start engine and warm it up to the normal operating temperature.
- Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
- Start engine and keep the engine speed between 3,500 and 4,000 RPM for at least 1 minute under no load.
- Let engine idle for 1 minute.
- Open engine hood.
- Set voltmeter probe between ECM terminals ECM terminals 74 [HO2S2 (bank 1) signal], 55 [HO2S2 (bank 2) signal] and ground.
- Keep engine speed at 2,500 RPM constant under no load.
- Make sure that the voltage does not vary for more than 5 seconds. If the voltage fluctuation cycle takes less than 5 seconds, go to «DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE»(ref-169472-S40465481952004120900000) . 1 cycle: 0.6 - 1.0 --> 0 - 0.3 --> 0.6 - 1.0

- CHECK EXHAUST SYSTEM Visually check exhaust tubes and muffler for dent. OK or NG OK: GO TO 2. NG: Repair or replace.
- CHECK EXHAUST GAS LEAK Start engine and run it at idle. Listen for an exhaust gas leak before the three way catalyst (manifold). OK or NG OK: GO TO 3. NG: Repair or replace.
- CHECK INTAKE AIR LEAK Listen for an intake air leak after the mass air flow sensor. OK or NG OK: GO TO 4. NG: Repair or replace.
- CHECK IGNITION TIMING Check the following items. Refer to «BASIC INSPECTION»(ref-169472-S09551101142004120900000) . OK or NG OK: GO TO 5. NG: Follow the «BASIC INSPECTION»(ref-169472-S09551101142004120900000) .
- CHECK INJECTORS Stop engine and then turn ignition switch ON. Check voltage between ECM terminals 21, 22, 23, 40, 41, 42, 44, 63 and ground with CONSULT-II or tester. Refer to «SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - TITAN»(ref-166656) article. Battery voltage should exist. OK or NG OK: GO TO 6. NG: Perform «INJECTOR CIRCUIT»(ref-169809-S02167552732004121600000) in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - TITAN article.
- CHECK IGNITION SPARK Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect ignition coil assembly from rocker cover. Connect a known-good spark plug to the ignition coil assembly. Disconnect all injector harness connectors. Place end of spark plug against a suitable ground and crank engine. Check for spark. OK or NG OK: GO TO 7. NG: Check ignition coil with power transistor and their circuit. Refer to «IGNITION SIGNAL»(ref-169809-S09326610482004121600000) in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - TITAN article.
- CHECK INJECTOR Turn ignition switch OFF. Remove injector assembly. Refer to «FUEL INJECTOR AND FUEL TUBE»(ref-163594-S08204080392004120700000) in ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L article. Keep fuel hose and all injectors connected to injector gallery. Disconnect all ignition coil harness connectors. Reconnect injector harness connector. Turn ignition switch ON. Make sure fuel does not drip from injector. OK or NG OK (Does not drip.): GO TO 8. NG (Drips.): Replace the injector(s) from which fuel is dripping.
- CHECK INTERMITTENT INCIDENT Refer to «TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR INTERMITTENT INCIDENT»(ref-169472-S11178043272004120900000) . Trouble is fixed.: INSPECTION END Trouble is not fixed.: Replace three way catalyst assembly.
Use this procedure to check the overall monitoring function of the EVAP control system purge flow monitoring. During this check, a 1st trip DTC might not be confirmed.

- Lift up drive wheels.
- Start engine (VDC switch OFF) and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
- Turn ignition switch OFF, wait at least 10 seconds.
- Start engine and wait at least 70 seconds.
- Set voltmeter probes to ECM terminals 32 (EVAP control system pressure sensor signal) and ground.
- Check EVAP control system pressure sensor value at idle speed and note it.
- Establish and maintain the following conditions for at least 1 minute.
- Verify that EVAP control system pressure sensor value stays 0.1V less than the value at idle speed (measured at step 6 ) for at least 1 second.
- If NG, go to «DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE»(ref-169472-S25118166282004120900000) .

- CHECK EVAP CANISTER Turn ignition switch OFF. Check EVAP canister for cracks. OK or NG OK (With CONSULT-II): GO TO 2. OK (Without CONSULT-II): GO TO 3. NG: Replace EVAP canister.
- CHECK PURGE FLOW With CONSULT-II Disconnect vacuum hose connected to EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve at EVAP service port and install vacuum gauge. For the location of EVAP service port, refer to «EVAPORATIVE EMISSION LINE DRAWING»(ref-169809-S38786464232004121600000) in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - TITAN article. Start engine and let it idle. Select "PURG VOL CONT/V" in "ACTIVE TEST" mode with CONSULT-II. Rev engine up to 2,000 RPM. Touch "Qd" and "Qu" on CONSULT-II screen to adjust "PURG VOL CONT/V" opening and check vacuum existence. OK or NG OK: GO TO 7. NG: GO TO 4.
- CHECK PURGE FLOW Without CONSULT-II Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature. Stop engine. Disconnect vacuum hose connected to EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve at EVAP service port and install vacuum gauge. For the location of EVAP service port, refer to «EVAPORATIVE EMISSION LINE DRAWING»(ref-169809-S38786464232004121600000) in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - TITAN article. Start engine and let it idle. Do not depress accelerator pedal even slightly. Check vacuum gauge indication before 60 seconds passed after starting engine. Vacuum should not exist. Revving engine up to 2,000 RPM after 100 seconds passed after starting engine. Vacuum should exist. OK or NG OK: GO TO 7. NG: GO TO 4.
- CHECK EVAP PURGE LINE Turn ignition switch OFF. Check EVAP purge line for improper connection or disconnection. For the location of EVAP service port, refer to «EVAPORATIVE EMISSION LINE DRAWING»(ref-169809-S38786464232004121600000) in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - TITAN article. OK or NG OK: GO TO 5. NG: Repair it.
- CHECK EVAP PURGE HOSE AND PURGE PORT Disconnect purge hoses connected to EVAP service port A and EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve B . Blow air into each hose and EVAP purge port C . Check that air flows freely. OK or NG OK (With CONSULT-II): GO TO 6. OK (Without CONSULT-II): GO TO 7. NG: Repair or clean hoses and/or purge port.
- CHECK EVAP CANISTER PURGE VOLUME CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE With CONSULT-II Start engine. Perform "PURG VOL CONT/V" in "ACTIVE TEST" mode with CONSULT-II. Check that engine speed varies according to the valve opening. OK or NG OK: GO TO 8. NG: GO TO 7.
- CHECK EVAP CANISTER PURGE VOLUME CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE Refer to «COMPONENT INSPECTION»(ref-169472-S26890278992004120900000) . OK or NG OK: GO TO 8. NG: Replace EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve.
- CHECK EVAP CONTROL SYSTEM PRESSURE SENSOR CONNECTOR Disconnect EVAP control system pressure sensor harness connector. Check connectors for water. Water should not exist. OK or NG OK: GO TO 9. NG: Replace EVAP control system pressure sensor.
- CHECK EVAP CONTROL SYSTEM PRESSURE SENSOR FUNCTION Refer to DTC P0452 «DTC Confirmation Procedure»(ref-169472-S27082151762004120900000) and P0453 «DTC Confirmation Procedure»(ref-169472-S10229786892004120900000) . OK or NG OK: GO TO 10. NG: Replace EVAP control system pressure sensor.
- CHECK RUBBER TUBE FOR CLOGGING Disconnect rubber tube connected to EVAP canister vent control valve. Check the rubber tube for clogging. OK or NG OK: GO TO 11. NG: Clean the rubber tube using an air blower.
- CHECK EVAP CANISTER VENT CONTROL VALVE Refer to «COMPONENT INSPECTION»(ref-169472-S25888519002004120900000) . OK or NG OK: GO TO 12. NG: Replace EVAP canister vent control valve.
- CHECK EVAP PURGE LINE Inspect EVAP purge line (pipe and rubber tube). Check for evidence of leaks. For the location of EVAP service port, refer to «EVAPORATIVE EMISSION LINE DRAWING»(ref-169809-S38786464232004121600000) in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - TITAN article. OK or NG OK: GO TO 13. NG: Replace it.
- CLEAN EVAP PURGE LINE Clean EVAP purge line (pipe and rubber tube) using air blower. GO TO 14.
- CHECK INTERMITTENT INCIDENT Refer to «TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR INTERMITTENT INCIDENT»(ref-169472-S11178043272004120900000) . INSPECTION END
