SERVICE INTERVALS
Inspect fluid level every 15,000 miles or 12 months. If under severe usage, change every 30,000 miles or 24 months.
Maxima & Stanza
Fluid level is checked with speedometer driven gear. Remove speedometer housing mounting bolt and check level. (Scheme 24) Add fluid if necessary.
Except Maxima & Stanza
Fill plug is located on side of transmission or transaxle case. Lubricant level should be to bottom of fill hole.
RECOMMENDED FLUID
Hypoid SAE 80W-90 (API GL-4).

TRANSMISSION REFILL CAPACITIES

- Select cable attaches to select lever on top of transmission. Loosen select cable adjuster lock nuts. (Scheme 25) Adjuster is located on shift lever end of cable.
- Place shift change lever on transmission in 3rd or 4th gear position. Shift change lever is attached to cross shaft on side of transmission. Adjust length of cable with adjuster. Tighten adjuster lock nuts.

- Loosen trunnion lock nut of shift cable. (Scheme 26) Shift cable is attached to cross shaft on side of transmission.
- Remove trunnion of shift cable from cross shaft. Set cross shaft in transmission to Neutral position.
- Insert a.16" (4 mm) pin, as near horizontal as possible, into each adjustment hole in both control lever and roller bearing. (Scheme 27) Adjust trunnion so it will slide easily onto cross shaft. Tighten trunnion lock nut. NOTE: All RWD models except Vans have floor shift mechanisms which have no external linkage and require no adjustment.
