ALTIMA

  1. Set heater control to HOT position. Open air relief plug. (Scheme 1) Fill radiator slowly to allow air to escape. Close air relief plug when coolant starts to flow out of air relief hole. Fill coolant reservoir to MAX mark.
  2. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Increase engine speed to 2500 RPM for 10 seconds, and then return to idle. Repeat 2-3 times. Turn engine off.
  3. Check coolant level. Install radiator cap. Warm engine to normal engine temperature. Move heater control at several positions between HOT and COLD. Increase engine speed to 3000 RPM. Listen for coolant flow at heater valve. If coolant flow is heard, repeat step 2) until coolant level no longer drops. Check air relief and drain plug for leaks.

FRONTIER & MAXIMA

  1. Before filling cooling system, open drain plug at bottom of radiator. Remove radiator cap. Remove reservoir tank, drain coolant, and then clean reservoir tank. Install reservoir tank, temporarily. Remove cylinder block drain plug. Ensure air relief plug is open to allow trapped air to exit system. (Scheme 3)
  2. Install reservoir tank and cylinder block drain plug. Close radiator drain plug. Fill radiator until coolant spills from air relief hole, and then install air relief plug. (Scheme 2)or (Scheme 3). Pour coolant into filler neck slowly to allow air in system to escape. Refill reservoir tank to MAX mark.
  3. Warm engine to normal operating temperature without radiator cap installed. Run engine at 2500 RPM for 10 seconds, and return to idle speed. Repeat 2-3 times. Turn engine off.
  4. Repeat step 2), 2 or 3 times with radiator cap installed until coolant level no longer drops. Check coolant level with engine running. Move heater control to several positions between COOL and HOT. Increase speed to 3000 RPM. Listen for coolant flow at heater valve. If coolant flow is heard, repeat step 2).

  1. Before filling cooling system, open drain plug at bottom of radiator. Remove radiator cap. Remove reservoir tank, drain coolant, then clean reservoir tank. Install reservoir tank, temporarily. Cover exhaust tube heat shield to prevent coolant from splashing. Open drain plugs on both sides of cylinder block. (Scheme 4) Open air relief plug to drain coolant. (Scheme 3)
  2. Install reservoir tank and cylinder block drain plugs. Close radiator drain plug. Remove heater hose at feeding connector on heater unit. Fill radiator slowly with coolant until coolant spills from air relief plug. Refill radiator and reservoir tank with coolant to MAX mark. Install radiator cap.
  3. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Run engine at 3000 RPM for 10 seconds, and return to idle speed. Repeat 2 or 3 times. Turn engine off. Remove radiator cap, and check coolant level. Refill reservoir tank to MAX mark. Repeat step 2 or 3 times.
  4. Move heater control to several positions between COOL and HOT. Increase speed to 3000 RPM. Listen for coolant flow at heater valve. If coolant flow is heard, repeat step 2).

  1. Open radiator drain plug at bottom of radiator. Remove radiator cap. Remove reservoir tank, drain coolant, and then clean reservoir tank. Install reservoir tank temporarily. Open drain plugs on both sides of cylinder block. (Scheme 5) Remove engine air relief plug. (Scheme 6)
  2. Slowly add coolant through radiator filler neck, allowing several minutes for air to escape. Fill until coolant fills radiator neck. Continue adding coolant while gently moving upper radiator hose up and down until coolant level no longer drops in filler neck. Place wire under radiator filler cap negative pressure relief valve. Install radiator cap.
  3. Disconnect coolant reservoir hose from radiator overflow port. Attach hose from modified 1-gallon bottle to radiator neck overflow port. Using lock pliers, clamp off hose from modified bottle. Fill bottle with proper mixture of coolant, and hang bottle from hood striker assembly. Remove locking pliers from coolant hose to bottle. Allow coolant to flow until coolant comes out of engine air relief hole.
  4. Using locking pliers, reclamp coolant hose from bottle. Install and tighten engine air relief plug to 14-20 ft. lbs. (20-26 N.m). Raise front of vehicle about 22" (558 mm) from ground.
  5. On vehicles with manual A/C, ensure temperature control lever is in full HOT position, and fan speed is HIGH. On vehicles with automatic A/C, set temperature control lever to 90°F, and fan speed to HIGH. Remove locking pliers from coolant hose to 1-gallon bottle. Run engine at 1500 RPM for 20-25 minutes. Turn ignition OFF. Lower front of vehicle to ground level.
  6. Using locking pliers, reclamp coolant hose from 1-gallon bottle. Remove radiator cap. Remove bottle and coolant hose from radiator neck overflow port. Install coolant reservoir hose to radiator neck overflow port.
  7. Remove wire from radiator cap. Completely fill radiator until coolant level no longer lowers in filler neck. Install radiator cap. Refill coolant reservoir to MAX mark. Reinstall coolant reservoir cap. Check cooling system for leaks with engine running.

SENTRA

  1. Set heater control to HOT position. Open drain plug at bottom of radiator. (Scheme 7) Remove radiator cap. Ensure A/C switch is OFF. Remove reservoir tank, drain coolant, and then clean reservoir tank. Temporarily install reservoir tank. Remove cylinder block drain plug and air relief plug(s). (Scheme 7)or (Scheme 8).
  2. On 2000 1.8L and 2.0L, using compressed air, remove any coolant around exhaust tube heat shield. On all models, install reservoir tank and cylinder drain plug. Close radiator drain plug. Fill radiator slowly with coolant until coolant spills form air relief plug, and then reinstall air relief plug. Fill radiator and reservoir tank to specified level as soon as coolant spills out without bubbles. Pour coolant through coolant filler neck slowly to allow air to escape.
  3. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Increase engine speed to 2500 RPM for 10 seconds, and then return to idle. Repeat 2-3 times. Turn engine off. Add coolant after engine cools down. Repeat procedure 2 or 3 times.
  4. Check coolant level. Install proper radiator cap. Warm engine to normal engine temperature. Move heater control at several positions between HOT and COLD. Increase engine speed to 3000 RPM. Listen for coolant flow at heater valve. If coolant flow is heard, repeat step 2) until coolant level no longer drops. Check air relief and drain plug for leaks.

XTERRA

  1. Turn ignition on. Set temperature control to maximum heat position. Turn ignition off after air mix door moves to HOT position.
  2. Open radiator drain plug at bottom of radiator, and remove radiator cap. Remove reservoir tank, drain coolant, and then clean reservoir tank. Remove cylinder block drain plugs and air relief plug. (Scheme 2)or (Scheme 3).
  3. Install reservoir tank and cylinder block drain plugs. Close radiator drain plug. Fill radiator slowly to allow air to escape, and then install relief plug. Fill coolant reservoir to MAX mark.
  4. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature without radiator cap installed. Run engine at 3000 RPM for 10 seconds, and return to idle speed. Repeat 2-3 times. Turn engine off. Add coolant after engine cools down.
  5. Check coolant level. Repeat step 4) 2 or 3 times with radiator cap installed until coolant level no longer drops. Warm engine to normal engine temperature. Move heater control between COOL and HOT positions. Increase engine speed to 3000 RPM. Listen for coolant flow at heater valve. If coolant flow is heard, bleed air from cooling system by repeating step 4) until coolant level no longer drops. Check air relief and drain plugs for leaks.
