TRANSMITTER
- Enter vehicle and sit in driver's seat. Close and lock all doors. Insert and remove key from ignition switch more than 6 times within 10 seconds. If successful, hazard warning lights will flash.
- Turn ignition switch to ACC position. Press any button on new transmitter once. Hazard warning lights should flash if input is successful. New transmitter identification code is now entered into SECU memory and old transmitter code is erased.
- To program an additional transmitter, lock and unlock doors using driver's side door lock switch. Press any button on second transmitter. New transmitter identification code is now entered into SECU memory.
- Unlock and open driver's side door. Programming is complete. Check transmitter operation.
ALL REMOTE CONTROL SYSTEM FUNCTIONS INOPERATIVE
Perform TRANSMITTER BATTERY CHECK and POWER SUPPLY & GROUND CIRCUIT CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. If no problem is found, replace transmitter. See TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING.
NEW TRANSMITTER CANNOT BE PROGRAMMED
Perform TRANSMITTER BATTERY CHECK , KEY SWITCH CHECK , DOOR SWITCH INPUT SIGNAL CHECK , DOOR UNLOCK SENSOR CHECK and POWER SUPPLY & GROUND CIRCUIT CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. If no problem is found, replace transmitter. See TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING.
REMOTE LOCK OR UNLOCK INOPERATIVE
Note. If power door lock system does not operate manually, see POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK RELEASE - QUEST article.
Operate power door locks manually. If no problem is found, replace transmitter. See TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING.
Perform TAIL LIGHT RELAY CHECK and DOOR SWITCH INPUT SIGNAL CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. If no problem is found, replace transmitter. See TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING.
Perform PRELIMINARY CHECK. See TROUBLE SHOOTING in ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - QUEST article. Perform KEY SWITCH CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. If no problem is found, replace transmitter. See TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING.
TRANSMITTER BATTERY CHECK
Remove transmitter battery. Using DVOM, measure voltage across transmitter battery positive and negative surfaces. Positive surface is stamped (+). Replace battery if voltage is not 2.5-3.0 volts.
POWER SUPPLY & GROUND CIRCUIT CHECK
- Check Power Circuit Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 13 (Green/Red wire) at Smart Entrance Control Unit (SECU) harness connector. (Scheme 1) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-8831-S40849455202000092600000). Battery voltage should be present with ignition switch in any position. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check condition of fuse No. 39 (7.5-amp). Replace if necessary. If fuse is okay, repair open in Green/Red wire.
- Check Accessory Power Circuit Turn ignition switch to ACC position. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 36 (Light Green/Red wire) at SECU harness connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check condition of fuse No. 5 (7.5-amp), located in instrument panel fuse block. Replace if necessary. If fuse is okay, repair open in Light Green/Red wire between fuse box and SECU harness connector.
- Check Ground Circuit Turn ignition off. Disconnect SECU harness connector. Using DVOM, check for continuity between ground and SECU terminals No. 2, 10 and 16 (Black wires). If continuity is present, power and ground circuits are okay. If continuity is not present, check chassis ground point above left-side kick panel. If ground connection is okay, repair open in suspect Black wire.

DOOR SWITCH INPUT SIGNAL CHECK
- Preliminary Check Turn ignition off and remove key. Close engine hood and all doors. SECURITY indicator light should be off. Open any door. SECURITY indicator light should flash in one-second intervals. If operation is as specified, door switch is okay. If operation is not as specified, go to next step.
- Check Door Switch Input Signal Ensure ignition is off. Using DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminals No. 9 (Red/White wire), No. 24 (Red/White wire), No. 34 (Red wire) and No. 41 (Red/Green wire) at Smart Entrance Control Unit (SECU) harness connector. (Scheme 1) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-8831-S40849455202000092600000). Ensure voltage is as specified. See «DOOR SWITCH CIRCUIT VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-8831-S22785117452000092600000) table. If voltage is as specified, door switch is okay. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. - Check Door Switch Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect door switch harness connectors. Using DVOM, check for continuity between door switch terminals under specified conditions. See «DOOR SWITCH CONTINUITY SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-8831-S13451808892000092600000) table. If continuity is not as specified, replace faulty door switch. If continuity is as specified, check for open or short in door switch harnesses. Check for poor door switch ground. Repair as necessary.

DOOR SWITCH CONTINUITY SPECIFICATIONS (1)
KEY SWITCH CHECK
- Check Key Switch Input Signal Using DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminal No. 35 (Blue/Orange wire) at Smart Entrance Control Unit (SECU) harness connector. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-8831-S40849455202000092600000) . DVOM should indicate battery voltage with key inserted in ignition switch, and zero volts with key removed. If voltage is as specified, key switch is okay. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
- Check Key Switch Disconnect key switch harness connector. Using DVOM, check for continuity between key switch terminals. DVOM should indicate continuity with key inserted in ignition switch, and no continuity with key removed. Replace key switch if continuity is not as specified. If continuity is as specified, check for open or short in wiring harness between key switch and fuse, or between key switch and SECU. Repair as necessary.
DOOR UNLOCK SENSOR CHECK
- Check Door Unlock Sensor Input Signal Turn ignition off. Using DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminals No. 37 (Gray/Yellow wire), No. 40 (Purple wire), No. 46 (Red/Yellow wire) or No. 48 (Red/Blue wire) at Smart Entrance Control Unit (SECU) harness connector. (Scheme 1) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-8831-S40849455202000092600000). Ensure voltage is as specified. See «DOOR UNLOCK SENSOR VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-8831-S32936269592000092600000) table. If voltage is as specified, door unlock sensor is okay. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. - Check Door Unlock Sensor Disconnect door unlock sensor harness connectors. Using DVOM, check for continuity between door unlock sensor terminals. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-8831-S40849455202000092600000). Continuity should be present only when sensor is in UNLOCKED position. If continuity is not as specified, replace door unlock sensor. If continuity is as specified, check for open or short in circuit between appropriate door unlock sensor and SECU. Check door unlock sensor ground circuit. Repair as necessary.
TAIL LIGHT RELAY CHECK
Operate exterior lights. If tail lights do not function correctly, repair as needed. See appropriate wiring diagram in EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. If lights function correctly, inspect circuit between tail light relay and Smart Entry Control Unit (SECU) for open or short.
