Engine Controls Self-Diagnostics - Introduction: Overview Nissan Pathfinder II

DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

Note. Electronic Concentrated Control System (ECCS) control module is referred to as Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

If no faults were found while performing BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES, proceed with self-diagnostics. Using scan tool, review and record all DTC and freeze-frame information available. If no DTCs are present after entering self-diagnostics, proceed to TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article for diagnosis by symptom (i.e., ROUGH IDLE, NO START, etc.).

DESCRIPTION

There are several methods available to enter into self-diagnostics. Using either Nissan's CONSULT, Generic Scan Tool (GST) or Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL), review and record any DTC or freeze-frame information available before clearing DTCs or disconnecting the battery for a prolonged period.

Before entering self-diagnostics with MIL or GST, review the following precautions before proceeding

  1. Review and record all stored DTCs before entering into diagnostic procedures.
  2. When ignition is turned off for more than 5 seconds during PCM Mode II, system will automatically return to Mode I.
  3. If battery is disconnected for an extended period, DTCs may be lost from memory.
  4. If battery is disconnected or DTCs cleared, SRT codes must be reset prior to performing an I/M test.
  5. Be careful not to erase stored DTCs before recording data for diagnostic testing.
  6. Switching mode selector on PCM from Diagnostic Test Mode I to Diagnostic Test Mode II is not possible when engine is running.
  7. Ensure PCM Diagnostic Test Mode selector is turned back to the full counterclockwise position whenever vehicle is in use.

DTC IDENTIFICATION (FRONTIER V6, PATHFINDER & QX4)

System Readiness Test (SRT) codes indicate whether self-diagnostic tests for non-continuously monitored components have been completed or are incomplete. Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) tests of the On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) type emission systems may become the legal requirements in some states/areas. All SRT codes must be set, or complete, prior to performing an I/M test. See SETTING SRT CODES procedure.

If diagnostic information is erased or battery is disconnected for a prolonged period of time, vehicle must be driven in the manner prescribed to set all SRT codes. (Схема №2) SRT codes are set after component self-diagnosis has been performed one or more times. SRT codes are set whether component diagnosis is good or bad, and whether or not diagnosis is performed in consecutive trips. See appropriate SYSTEM READINESS TEST (SRT) CODE IDENTIFICATION table.
