REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| WARNING | Vehicle is equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. When servicing vehicle, use care to avoid accidental air bag deployment. SIR system-related components are located in various locations throughout interior and exterior of vehicle, depending on application. Do not use electrical test equipment on or near these circuits. If necessary, deactivate SIR system before servicing components. See AIR BAG DEACTIVATION PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. |
| CAUTION | When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery. |
- Remove axle shaft assemblies. See appropriate FWD AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES. Remove oil seals.
- Apply transmission fluid to NEW oil seals. Install differential side oil seals. Ensure dimensions "A" and "B" are within specification. (Scheme 143) Dimension "A" should be.217-.256" (5.50-6.50 mm). Dimension "B" should be plus or minus.020" (.5 mm). Reinstall axle shaft assemblies. Add fluid as necessary.

Disconnect revolution sensor harness connector. (Scheme 151) Remove bolt and revolution sensor. To install, reverse removal procedure. Install NEW "O" ring on revolution sensor. Tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
Disconnect turbine revolution sensor harness connector. (Scheme 151) Remove bolt and turbine revolution sensor. To install, reverse removal procedure. Install NEW "O" ring on revolution sensor. Tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
- Drain transmission fluid from transaxle.
- Remove oil pan and gasket. Always replace oil pan bolts as they are self-sealing bolts.
- Disconnect transaxle solenoid valve harness connector. (Scheme 145)
- Remove stopper ring from transaxle solenoid valve harness terminal body. (Scheme 146)
- Remove transaxle solenoid harness by pushing terminal body into case.
- Remove valve body assembly mounting bolts "A", "B" and "C". (Scheme 147)and (Scheme 148). Remove valve body. Be careful not to drop manual valve and servo release accumulator return springs.
- Disassemble and inspect valve body assembly if necessary. See appropriate OVERHAUL article.
- Remove servo release and N-D accumulators by applying compressed air if necessary. (Scheme 149) Hold each piston with a clean, lint-free towel.
- To install valve body assembly, set manual valve in Neutral position and align with manual plate. (Scheme 150) Install valve body assembly with bolts in appropriate location. See «VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY BOLT IDENTIFICATION»(ref-142978-S30626287912002090600000) table. Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-142978-S12580468732002082000000). To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Add fluid as necessary.
