Computer Relearn Procedures: Other Nissan 350Z I

BODY CONTROLS

Vehicles equipped with body, air conditioning, anti-lock brake or memory computers may require a computer relearn procedure after components are replaced or the vehicle battery is disconnected. Vehicle computers memorize and store vehicle information and operation selections. When the vehicle battery is disconnected, vehicle computer memory may be lost, requiring relearning or resetting. Depending on the vehicle and how it is equipped, the following memories may exist

1. Seat position.
2. Tilt/telescoping steering wheel position.
3. Mirror position.
4. Radio presets and anti-theft code.
5. Clock.
6. Remote keyless entry custom features.
7. Door key lock entry custom features.
8. Power window or sunroof operation.

These do not affect vehicle operation. For systems that do not affect operation, see appropriate article for relearn procedures. Other computer relearn procedures are required for vehicle or system operation. These may include

1. Initial control unit programming.
2. Traction control yaw sensor initializing.
3. Multiplex communication.
4. Anti-theft system or engine immobilizer system passwords.

ACCELERATOR PEDAL RELEASED POSITION LEARNING

Note. After disconnecting battery or replacing ECM, perform the following relearn procedure.

THROTTLE VALVE CLOSED POSITION LEARNING

Note. After disconnecting battery or replacing ECM, perform the following relearn procedure.

Learning Procedure

1. Ensure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch ON.
3. Turn ignition switch OFF wait at least 10 seconds. Make sure that throttle valve moves during above 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound.

NISSAN VEHICLE IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM

Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System (NVIS) must be initialized after Engine Control Module (ECM) has been replaced. See appropriate IMMOBILIZER SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.

IDLE AIR VOLUME LEARNING

Note. After disconnecting battery or replacing ECM, perform the following relearn procedure.

Preparation

Before performing idle air volume learning, ensure that all of the following conditions are satisfied. Learning will be cancelled if any of the following conditions are missed for even a moment

1. Battery Voltage More than 12.9 volts (At idle).
2. Engine Coolant Temperature 158-212°F (70-100°C).
3. PNP Switch ON.
4. Electric Load Switch OFF (Air conditioner, headlamp, rear window defogger) on vehicles equipped with daytime light systems, set lighting switch to the 1st position to light only small lamps.
5. Steering Wheel Neutral (Straight-ahead position).
6. Vehicle Speed Stopped.
7. Transmission Warmed-up for A/T models with CONSULT-II, drive vehicle until "FLUID TEMP SE" in "DATA MONITOR" mode of A/T system indicates less than 0.9 volt. For A/T models without CONSULT-II and M/T models, drive vehicle for 10 minutes.

Procedure - With Consult-II

1. Perform accelerator pedal released position learning, see «ACCELERATOR PEDAL RELEASED POSITION LEARNING»(ref-158387-S00466295752004010500000).
2. Perform throttle valve closed position learning, see «THROTTLE VALVE CLOSED POSITION LEARNING»(ref-158387-S38863117802004010500000).
3. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature.
4. Check that all items listed under «PREPARATION»(ref-158387-S16924367672004010500000) are in good order.
5. Select "IDLE AIR VOL LEARN" in "WORK SUPPORT" mode.
6. Touch "START" and wait 20 seconds.
7. Ensure that "CMPLT" is displayed on CONSULT-II screen. If "CMPLT" is not displayed, idle air volume learning will not be carried out successfully. In this case, find the cause of the incident by referring to «DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE»(ref-158387-S34710796372004010500000).
8. Rev up the engine 2 or 3 times and ensure that idle speed and ignition timing are within specifications (Scheme 1)

Scheme 1

Procedure - Without Consult-II

Note. It is better to count the time accurately with a clock. It is impossible to switch the diagnostic mode when an accelerator pedal position sensor circuit has a malfunction.

1. Perform accelerator pedal released position learning, see «ACCELERATOR PEDAL RELEASED POSITION LEARNING»(ref-158387-S00466295752004010500000).
2. Perform throttle valve closed position learning, see «THROTTLE VALVE CLOSED POSITION LEARNING»(ref-158387-S38863117802004010500000).
3. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature.
4. Check that all items listed under «PREPARATION»(ref-158387-S16924367672004010500000) are in good order.
5. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
6. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch ON and wait 3 seconds. (Scheme 2)
7. Repeat the following procedure quickly five times within 5 seconds. Fully depress the accelerator pedal. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
8. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it down for approximately 20 seconds until the MIL stops blinking and is turned ON.
9. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the MIL goes OFF.
10. Start engine and let it idle.
11. Wait 20 seconds.
12. Rev up the engine 2 or 3 times and ensure that idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications (Scheme 2)
13. If idle speed and ignition timing are not within the specification, the result will be incomplete. In this case, find the cause of the incident by referring to «DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE»(ref-158387-S34710796372004010500000).
