ENGINE CONTROLS

After disconnecting battery, electronic control system data from engine, automatic transaxle and other memory systems will be erased. As a result, engine speed may become unstable and harsh or poor transmission/transaxle shift quality may occur. If engine speed becomes unstable, go to ENGINE CONTROL MODULE . Harsh or poor transmission/transaxle shift quality will become smoother after several changes in speed. Memory data settings made by vehicle owner will need to be reestablished using relevant procedures in owners manual.

If Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has been replaced, go to PROGRAMMING .

POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE

If engine speed becomes unstable after disconnecting battery, reset Powertrain Control Module (PCM) using following method

  1. Place transmission/transaxle selector lever in Park position and turn engine off.
  2. Start engine.
  3. Turn off air conditioning.
  4. Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature.
  5. Turn engine off and on again.
  6. Allow engine to idle for about 10 minutes.
  7. When engine speed stabilizes, resetting procedure is complete.

PROGRAMMING

Note. The use of manufacturers scan tool is needed for this procedure.
