Power Windows Mitsubishi Eclipse I

DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

Main switch (master switch) on the driver's door controls all windows. A sub-switch on the passenger's door operates only the passenger side window. A permanent magnet motor moves each power window up and down. The direction the motor turns depends on the polarity of the supply voltage. With the ignition switch in the ON position, voltage is applied to the Power Windows Circuit, fuse No. 3 (10A) in the fuse panel (passenger compartment junction block). (Scheme 1)

Power then travels to the master switch in driver's door armrest, then to passenger sub-switch. Each motor is protected by a built in circuit breaker. If a window switch is held on too long with the window obstructed or after the window is fully up or down, the circuit breaker opens the circuit. The circuit breaker resets automatically as it cools. Do not allow frequent or consecutive resetting of the circuit breaker to continue. The power window motor and gearbox assembly cannot be repaired. If faulty, the entire assembly must be replaced.

A One-Touch Module for its One-Touch Driver's Side Window feature is built into the master switch. With the ignition switch in the accessory position, depress (tap) on the driver's side window switch in the down position for less than 0.4 seconds. The window will continue downward until the window is fully lowered. The driver can turn off this automatic feature by depressing (tapping) the driver's side window switch in the down position. Momentarily depress the switch again in either the up or down position and this will shut off the automatic down feature. With the window in the fully up position depress the driver's side window for more that 0.5 seconds and the window will move downward until the switch is released. The master switch on driver's door also uses a power cut switch to prevent operation of windows. When power cut switch is in ON position, windows can be operated by main switch or sub-switch.

WINDOW MECHANISM

1. Remove door trim and waterproof film. See «DOOR TRIM & WATERPROOF FILM REMOVAL»(/mitsubishi/eclipse/i-1989-1995/remont/windows/#power-windows).
2. Loosen the installation bolt of the window regulator assembly. (Scheme 3)
3. Move the upper installation back and forth and adjust the tilted angle of the glass.

PRELIMINARY INSPECTION

Verify customer complaint by operating suspected system. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Inspect for blown fuses and damaged relays. Inspect for loose or corroded connections, damaged wiring harnesses and/or switches. Check for broken or partially broken wire which inside insulation, which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity test/voltage check with system discounted. Ensure any aftermarket electronic equipment is properly installed. If fault is found, repair as necessary.

CIRCUIT BREAKER (INCORPORATED IN THE POWER WINDOW MOTOR)

1. Press the UP switch to fully close the window glass, and continue to press the switch for 10 seconds.
2. At the moment that the UP switch is released, press the DOWN switch. The circuit breaker can be considered good if at this time the door window glass begins to open within 60 seconds.

POWER WINDOW MOTOR

1. Connect the motor terminal directly to the battery and check to be sure that the slider moves smoothly. (Scheme 5)
2. Also check to be sure that the slider moves in the opposite direction when the battery polarity connections are changed.

Check for continuity in accordance to the following connection table. (Scheme 6)

Apply battery voltage to terminal 2, and check for continuity when terminal 4 is grounded. (Scheme 7)

Removal & Installation(Directly Controlled)

1. Remove door trim and waterproof film. See «DOOR TRIM & WATERPROOF FILM»(/mitsubishi/eclipse/i-1989-1995/remont/windows/#power-windows).
2. Remove the screw on the end of the knob. (directly controlled mirror). (Scheme 8)
3. Remove inner delta cover.
4. Remove the three nuts securing door trim bracket.
5. Remove mirror.
6. Reverse the removal procedures to reinstall.

Removal & Installation (Electric Remote Controlled)

1. Remove door trim and waterproof film. See «DOOR TRIM & WATERPROOF FILM REMOVAL»(/mitsubishi/eclipse/i-1989-1995/remont/windows/#power-windows) .
2. Remove inner delta cover.
3. Unplug electrical connector from mirror.
4. Remove three nuts and door trim bracket
5. Remove mirror.
6. Reverse the removal procedures to reinstall.

1. Remove door grip mounting screws. (Scheme 10)
2. Remove pull handle box.
3. Carefully remove trim from door using door panel trim removing tool. (Scheme 9)
4. Remove electrical connectors from power window switch.
5. Unplug electrical connectors from remote control mirror switch.
6. Remove waterproof film.
7. Reverse removal procedures to reinstall.

Removal & Installation

2. Remove screws securing switch to door panel. (Scheme 11)

2. Remove door belt line inner weatherstrip. (Scheme 12)
3. Remove side view mirror. See «DOOR MIRROR REMOVAL»(/mitsubishi/eclipse/i-1989-1995/remont/windows/#power-windows).
4. Remove door rear sash. (Scheme 13)
5. Remove door glass holder screws.
6. Remove door glass.
7. Remove bolts securing regulator to door. Remove electrical plug from power window motor.
8. Remove power window regulator and motor.
9. Reverse removal procedures to reinstall.
