DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
The module communications network provides the ability for module-to-module communication by sharing inputs and outputs instead of each component having an input and output wired directly to each module. The communications network is routed throughout the vehicle to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), anti-lock brake control module, transmission Control Module (TCM) and air bag diagnostic monitor. This article is used to diagnose communications network circuit faults. Lighting Control Module (LCM) and Smart Entry Control (SEC) timer/module are not part of communications network. ACCESSING PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION
Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC) C252. DLC C252 is located below driver's side of instrument panel, to left of steering column above fuse junction panel. Following scan tool manufacturer's instructions, enter PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD for desired module. Operate appropriate system and ensure PID expected values are obtained.
