Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid
The TCC receives signal from the PCM. The TCC controls application, modulation and release of torque converter clutch. If solenoid fails in ON position, vehicle engine will run rough (shudder) and engine stalls in Drive at low idle speeds (2nd, 3rd or 4th gear). If solenoid fails in OFF position, torque converter clutch will not engage.
CIRCUIT TEST RTS1 - REDUCE TORQUE SIGNAL NO. 1
Note. The PCM on all models is located behind center console, below radio. The TCM on 1995 Probe 2.5L models is located next to PCM.

RTS1 CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION
- Check RTS1 Signal Ensure ignition is off. Install breakout box with PCM connected. Connect DVOM between test pin No. 8 and ground. Test drive vehicle and monitor voltage. Voltage should decrease from 10 volts or more to less than 1 volt during 1-2, 2-3 shift with 1/2 throttle opening or greater. If voltage does not decrease during transaxle upshift, replace TCM. Connect all components and repeat QUICK TEST. If voltage decreases during upshift, go to next step.
- Check RTS1 Circuit For Open Turn ignition off. Install breakout box, leaving PCM disconnected. Install 4EAT Tester, leaving TCM disconnected. Check continuity between breakout box test pin No. 8 and 4EAT Tester test pin 1J. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, inspect and repair circuit as needed. Connect all components and repeat QUICK TEST.
- Check RTS1 Circuit For Short Ensure ignition is off. Check continuity between breakout box test pin No. 8 and vehicle ground. If continuity does not exist, replace TCM. Connect all components and repeat QUICK TEST. If continuity exists, inspect and repair short to ground. Connect all components and repeat QUICK TEST.
CIRCUIT TEST RTS2 - REDUCE TORQUE SIGNAL NO. 2
Note. The PCM on all models is located behind center console, below radio. The TCM on 1995 Probe 2.5L models is located next to PCM.

RTS2 CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION
- Check RTS2 Signal Ensure ignition is off. Install breakout box with PCM connected. Connect DVOM between test pin No. 11 and ground. Test drive vehicle and monitor voltage. Voltage should decrease from 10 volts or more to less than 1 volt during 3-2, 2-1 downshift with 1/2 throttle opening or greater. If voltage decreases during transaxle downshift, replace PCM. Connect all components and repeat QUICK TEST. If voltage does not decrease during downshift, go to next step.
- Check RTS2 Circuit For Open Turn ignition off. Install breakout box, leaving PCM disconnected. Install 4EAT Tester, leaving TCM disconnected. Check continuity between breakout box test pin No. 11 and 4EAT Tester test pin 1L. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, inspect and repair circuit as needed. Connect all components and repeat QUICK TEST.
- Check RTS2 Circuit For Short Ensure ignition is off. Check continuity between breakout box test pin No. 11 and vehicle ground. If continuity does not exist, replace TCM. Connect all components and repeat QUICK TEST. If continuity exists, inspect and repair short to ground. Connect all components and repeat QUICK TEST.

TRS CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION
- Check TRS Signal Turn ignition switch off. Install 4EAT tester. Turn ignition switch on. Measure the voltage at 4EAT teaster pin TRS during the following conditions: TRS VOLTAGE Condition Voltage (volts) Coolant Temperature Above 140°F (60°C) Battery Voltage During Torque Control Shift Below 1 Coolant Temperature Below 140°F (60°C) 0 If the voltages are good, TRS circuit is good. If sent here from Quick Test Step 11, return to Diagnostic Routines. Otherwise, replace TCM. If the voltages are not good, go to next step.
- Check TRS Wire For Open Turn ignition switch off. Install Breakout Box, leaving PCM disconnected. Install 4EAT tester, leaving TCM disconnected. Measure resistance between Breakout Box Pin No. 19 and 4EAT tester Pin No. 1K. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair open in TRS wire.
- Check TRS Wire For Short Measure resistance between Breakout Box Pin No. 19 and ground. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, replace PCM. If resistance is not more than 10,000 ohms, repair short to ground in TRS wire.
