REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| CAUTION | When battery is are disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery. |
Removal & Installation (Continental)
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain radiator until coolant has drained from coolant overflow bottle. Disconnect overflow hose at bottle. Remove 2 top power steering reservoir bolts and position reservoir out of the way. Disconnect coolant level sensor and bottom hose from coolant overflow bottle. Remove retaining nut and bolt and remove bottle.
- Remove drive belt. Remove 4 fasteners from top generator bracket and remove bracket. Remove attachment bolts and remove generator from vehicle. To install reverse removal procedure. Fill radiator and overflow bottle. Bleed air from cooling system. Tighten fasteners to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-142207-S37075841042002072300000) .
Removal & Installation (Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis & Town Car)
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove rear engine cover screw. Pull cover forward to disengage front clips, and remove cover. Disengage push pins and pull harness away from top of generator. Remove 4 bolts and upper generator bracket. Disconnect wiring from generator. Remove drive belt. Remove attachment bolts and remove generator from vehicle. To install reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
Removal & Installation (Explorer & Mountaineer)
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner inlet tube. Remove drive belt. Disconnect wiring from generator. On 5.0L, remove A/C manifold bracket nut and position A/C manifold to one side. On all models, disconnect wiring harness retaining pin from generator. Remove 3 attachment bolts and remove generator from vehicle. To install reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
