FSS DISPLAY RESET - PROCEDURE 1

1. To reset maintenance display, with all doors closed, turn ignition key ON, with engine OFF (normal driving position). Within 4 seconds, press "00" button (Odometer Reset Button, marked "O" in illustration) twice. (Scheme 1) Present status for days or distance is displayed. Within 10 seconds, turn ignition key to OFF position. This is the position where key can be inserted or removed from ignition.
2. Press and hold "00" button while turning ignition to ON position, with engine OFF (normal driving position). Present status for days or distance is displayed again. Continue to hold "00" button.
3. After about 10 seconds a signal sounds, and display should show 10,000 miles (15,000 kilometers on Canadian models). Release "O" button.

FSS DISPLAY RESET - PROCEDURE 3

1. After performing vehicle service, FSS counter can be reset. To reset maintenance display, turn ignition key on, with engine off (normal driving position).
2. Call up trip and main odometer by pressing buttons on multifunction steering wheel. (Scheme 3) Press button until display appears on instrument cluster. Press up or down arrows on steering wheel until FSS display appears (SERVICE IN xxxx MILES, with small open end wrench symbol).
3. Press the reset (R) button on the instrument cluster for about 2 seconds. See «RESET BUTTON IDENTIFICATION»(ref-162007-S25521761602004051200000). Multifunction display will show question: "DO YOU WANT TO RESET SERVICE INTERVAL? CONFIRM BY PRESSING R." Press reset (R) button again to reset service indicator. New service indicator is displayed with reset distance of 10,000 miles (15,000 kilometers on Canadian models).
4. Reset (R) button is at lower left corner of instrument panel trim pad.

FSS DISPLAY RESET - PROCEDURE 4

1. To reset maintenance display, turn ignition key on with engine off (normal driving position). Depress reset button twice within one second for mileage/time interval to display present status for days or distance to next service. (Scheme 2)
2. Turn key off within 10 seconds. Depress and hold reset button. Continue holding button and turn ignition key on, with engine off.

FSS DISPLAY RESET - PROCEDURE 5

1. Turn ignition on (position 1) with engine off. Observe instrument cluster multifunction display. If instrument cluster multifunction display shows the default display (total mileage and trip mileage), go to next step. If instrument cluster multifunction display does not show the default display (total mileage and trip mileage), press lower left steering wheel (system) button until multifunction display shows the default display (total mileage and trip mileage). Go to next step.
2. Press upper left steering wheel (previous/next) button until service symbol (wrench) and current remaining distance (mileage), time remaining (days) or service exceeded is displayed. Press reset button on instrument cluster for approximately 3 seconds until multifunction display shows "DO YOU WANT TO RESET THE SERVICE INTERVAL? CONFIRM WITH THE R-BUTTON" or "SERVICE INTERVAL? RESET WITH (R) BUTTON FOR 3 SEC". See «RESET BUTTON IDENTIFICATION»(ref-162007-S25521761602004051200000). Release reset button. Press reset button on instrument cluster within approximately 5 seconds. The multifunction display will show current remaining driven distance of 10,000 miles (15,000 kilometers on Canadian models). On some models an audio signal indicates reset is complete. Release reset button. Reset is complete.

FSS DISPLAY RESET - PROCEDURE 6

1. Turn ignition on (run position) with engine off. Within 4 seconds after turning ignition on, press trip counter reset button twice within one second. See «RESET BUTTON IDENTIFICATION»(ref-162007-S25521761602004051200000). The service request display is now activated and will display for 10 seconds. Display will appear in the odometer display. Within 10 seconds turn ignition off.
2. The service request display will continue to display. Press and hold trip counter reset button. While depressing trip counter reset button, turn ignition switch on (run position) with engine off. Continue to hold trip counter reset button for approximately 10 seconds until a signal sounds. The odometer display will show current remaining driven distance of 10,000 miles (15,000 kilometers on Canadian models). Release trip counter reset button. Reset is complete.

FSS DISPLAY RESET - PROCEDURE 7

1. To reset FSS service indicator, turn ignition switch to ON position (2) and immediately press reset button located at left of speedometer 2 times within one second. The present status for days or distance is displayed in speedometer display. Within 10 seconds turn ignition switch to OFF position (0). Press and hold reset button located at left of speedometer while turning ignition switch to ON position (2).
2. The present status for days or distance is displayed in speedometer display once more. Approximately 10 seconds after pressing and holding reset button a signal sounds and the display shows 10,000 miles (15,000 kilometers on Canadian models) for approximately 10 more seconds. Release reset button.

FSS DISPLAY RESET - PROCEDURE 8

1. Turn ignition switch to ON position, with engine off. Observe instrument cluster multifunction display. When standard display appears, press DOWN arrow or UP arrow buttons located on left side of multifunction steering wheel until the FSS PLUS service indicator appears in the multifunction display and service deadline appears.
2. Press reset button at left side of instrument cluster for approximately 5 seconds until the SERVICE MENU appears on the multifunction display. Select the CONFIRMATION menu using the plus (+) or minus (-) button located on right side of multifunction steering wheel. Press the menu page button located on the left side of the multifunction steering wheel to display the CONFIRMATION menu.
3. The selection marker is on CONFIRM. Press the menu page button again to display the CONFIRM menu. The selection marker is on STANDARD OIL. Press the menu page button again and SERVICE CONFIRMED will be displayed in the multifunction display indicating reset is complete. Continue pressing the menu page button until the standard display is displayed on the multifunction display. FSS PLUS now recalculates the value. Service display or service menu cannot be called up during this time.

FSS DISPLAY RESET - PROCEDURE 9

1. To reset FSS service indicator, turn ignition switch to ON position (2) and immediately press reset button located at left of speedometer 2 times within one second. 2. Select service item to be deselected with scroll forward/back button (S110sl) and confirm with OK button (S110s6). NOTE: Deselected service items no longer have a checkmark.
3. If necessary, repeat step 2 to deselect further service items.
4. Select "Confirm Selection" with scroll forward/back button (S110sl) and confirm with OK button (S110s6).

MAINTENANCE SERVICE INDICATOR RESET - PROCEDURE 17

Note. This procedure refers to resetting the Maintenance Service Indicator using the Mercedes Star Diagnosis tool. This procedure applies to models: 117, 156, 166, 172, 176, 197, 204, 205, 207, 212, 218, 231, 242, 246.

1. Connect Star Diagnosis.
2. Enter through "Control units view" in "IC - Instrument cluster (A1)".
3. Select "Actuations" tab.
4. In "Selection" choose the "Reset general maintenance" work procedure.
5. Conduct "Reset general maintenance" work procedure.
6. Change from "IC - Instrument cluster (A1)" back to "Control units view".
7. Disconnect Star Diagnosis.

MAINTENANCE SERVICE REMINDER RESET - PROCEDURE 1

The maintenance service reminder is integrated into the digital display field for the odometer and comes on 2000 miles or 30 days before the next maintenance service is due. (Scheme 27) The remaining available mileage can be accessed manually.

To manually access the remaining mileage, with ignition switch in position 2 or with engine running, momentarily press button 1 twice. (Scheme 27) The display is canceled after approximately 10 seconds or when button 1 is pressed again.

Reset Maintenance Service Reminder - Turn ignition switch to position 1. Press button 1 and hold. (Scheme 27) Turn ignition switch to position 2. After 10 seconds a signal sounds and the display shows 7500 miles (12,000 km). Release button 1.

Note. If maintenance service reminder is reset unintentionally, it can be set back to the current reading using the HHT.

OXYGEN SENSOR WARNING LIGHT RESET - PROCEDURE 1

OX-SENSOR light comes on at 30,000 miles, indicating oxygen sensor must be replaced. After replacing sensor, disable mileage counter or warning light. To disable mileage counter on 280 Series vehicles, locate mileage counter in-line with speedometer cable (under instrument panel). (Scheme 28) Disconnect wiring plug from counter and leave it disconnected. On all other series, remove warning light bulb.

Note. Whenever tire pressure has been adjusted, or when wheels or tires have been replaced, the TPM system must be reactivated before it can work.

1. Ensure inflation pressure of all 4 tires is set to specification.
2. Switch ignition on. The standard display menu will appear in multifunction display on instrument cluster (shows information such as outside temperature and trip odometer).
3. Press the up or down button (located on left side of multifunction steering wheel) repeatedly until cluster display reads "RUN FLAT INDICATOR ACTIVE. REACTIVATION POSS.: +".
4. Press "+" button (located on right side of multifunction steering wheel). The multifunction display will now read "TIRE PRES. NOW OK? NO YES". NOTE: To cancel activation process, press "-" button or wait until message has disappeared from multifunction display.
5. To confirm activation, press "+" button. The multifunction display will now read "RUN FLAT INDICATOR REACTIVATED". After a certain "learning phase", the TPM system will check the set pressure values for all 4 tires.

TPMS RESET - PROCEDURE 3

Note. Whenever tire pressure has been adjusted, or when wheels or tires have been replaced, the TPM system must be reactivated before it can work.

1. Ensure inflation pressure of all 4 tires is set to specification.
2. Switch ignition on. Press the left or right arrow button on the multifunction steering wheel to select menu.
3. Press the up or down arrow button to select "RUN FLAT INDICATOR ".
4. Press the button "OK" to confirm. The following message appears in the multifunction display: "RUN FLAT INDICATOR ACTIVE MENU: OK-BUTTON".
5. Press button "OK". The following message will appear in the multifunction display: "RESTART RUN FLAT INDICATOR? YES or NO".
6. Press the up or down arrow button to select YES.
7. Press the OK button to confirm. The following message will appear in the multifunction display: "RUN FLAT INDICATOR RESTARTED".
8. After a certain "learning phase", the Run Flat Indicator checks the set pressure values for all 4 tires.

TPMS RESET - PROCEDURE 4

Note. Whenever tire pressure has been adjusted, or when wheels or tires have been replaced, the TPM system must be reactivated before it can work.

1. Ensure inflation pressure of all 4 tires is set to specification.
2. Switch ignition on. Press the next menu or previous menu button on the multifunction steering wheel repeatedly until the standard display menu appears in the multifunction display.
3. Press the up or down arrow button repeatedly until the following message appears in the multifunction display: "TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR ACTIVE MENU: R-BUTTON ".
4. Press the reset button The following message appears in the multifunction display: "RESTART TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR? CANCEL or YES".
5. Press the up or down arrow button to select YES.
6. Press the "+" button. The following message will appear in the multifunction display: "TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR RESTARTED".
7. After driving a few minutes, the current tire inflation pressure values are accepted as reference pressures and then monitored. If you wish to cancel activation, press the up or down arrow button to select CANCEL, then press the "+" button.

1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.

3. Turn ignition switch to ON position (engine may be on or off). The standard display menu will appear in multifunction display on instrument cluster (shows information such as outside temperature, and trip and main odometers).
4. Press menu scroll forward or back button (located on left side of multifunction steering wheel) until TPM system menu is displayed.
5. Press the up or down button (located on left side of multifunction steering wheel) repeatedly until cluster display reads "TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR ACTIVE. REACTIVATION POSSIBLE: R-BUTTON" or "TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR ACTIVE. MENU: R-BUTTON".
6. Press reset button on instrument cluster. see scheme 43or see scheme 45. The multifunction display should now read "RESTART TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR?".
7. Press the "+" button (located on right side of multifunction steering wheel). The multifunction display will now read "TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR RESTARTED" or "TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR REACTIVATED" confirming TPM system is activated. NOTE: To cancel activation process, press "-" button.
8. After driving a few minutes, the system verifies that the current tire inflation pressures are within the system's specified range. Afterwards, the current tire inflation pressures are accepted as reference pressures and then monitored.

TPMS RESET - PROCEDURE 7

Note. Whenever tire pressure has been adjusted, or when wheels or tires have been replaced, the TPM system must be reactivated before it can work.

Note. Some models may require that the engine be running during this procedure (Step 2).

1. Ensure inflation pressure of all 4 tires is set to specification.
2. Turn ignition on. Make sure the standard display menu appears in the multifunction display.
3. Press the up or down arrow button repeatedly until the following message appears in the multifunction display: "RUN FLAT INDICATOR ACTIVE MENU: R-BUTTON ".
4. Press the reset button on the instrument cluster. see scheme 45 The following message appears in the multifunction display: "RESTART RUN FLAT INDICATOR? CANCEL or YES".
5. Press the "+" button to confirm activation. The following message will appear in the multifunction display: "RUN FLAT INDICATOR RESTARTED".
6. After a certain "learning phase", the Run Flat Indicator checks the set pressure values for all 4 tires. If you wish to cancel activation, press the "-" button or wait until the message: "RESTART RUN FLAT INDICATOR? CANCEL or YES" disappears.

TPMS RESET - PROCEDURE 8

Note. Whenever tire pressure has been adjusted, or when wheels or tires have been replaced, the TPM system must be activated.

Note. TPMS activation is accomplished by using the multifunction display control buttons on left side of steering wheel.

1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
2. Ensure inflation pressure of all 4 tires is set to specification.
3. Make sure that the SmartKey is in position 2 in the ignition lock.
4. Press the left or right arrow button to select the "Serv." menu.
5. Press the up or down arrow button to select the "Tire Pressure".
6. Press the "OK" button. The multifunction display shows the current tire pressure of the individual tires, or the message "Tire pressure will be displayed after driving a few minutes".
7. Press the down arrow button. The message "Use Current Pressures as New Reference Values" will appear.
8. Press the "OK" button. The message "Tire Press. Monitor Restarted" will appear.
9. After about 10 minutes driving time the current tire pressures are displayed. The activation process is complete.

TPMS RESET - PROCEDURE 9

Note. Whenever tires or wheels are changed or tire pressure has been adjusted, the TPM system must be reactivated.

Note. After a wheel is exchanged, the system is independently able to detect new wheels and to assign their build position.

1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
2. Ensure inflation pressure of all 4 tires is as specified on tire placard.
3. Turn ignition switch to ON position. The standard display menu will appear in left and right multifunction displays on instrument cluster. see scheme 46
4. Using up or down arrow button (located on left side of multifunction steering wheel), select tire pressure monitor. In bottom center of instrument cluster, press instrument illumination rheostat and reset button.
5. Press "+" button (located on right side of multifunction steering wheel). The multifunction display will now display as shown for about 2 seconds. see scheme 47 NOTE: Using any other button operations on multifunction steering wheel will terminate activation process.
6. The multifunction display will now display a confirmation screen. see scheme 48
7. Once engine has started, the pressure value will be displayed immediately without numerical values (---). NOTE: If activation is carried out when engine is running, this display will be shown after a time delay of about 30 seconds.
8. Drive vehicle for about 10 minutes. Current tire pressure will be displayed, and activation process is complete. see scheme 46

TPMS RESET - PROCEDURE 10

Note. Whenever tires or wheels are changed or tire pressure has been adjusted, the TPM system must be reactivated before it can work.

1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
2. Ensure inflation pressure of all 4 tires is as specified on tire placard (located on driver's door "B" pillar or inside of fuel filler flap).
3. Turn ignition switch to ON position. The standard display menu will appear in upper multifunction display on instrument cluster.
4. Press up or down arrow button (located on left side of multifunction steering wheel) repeatedly until message appears in multifunction display as shown. see scheme 49
5. Press "+" button (located on right side of multifunction steering wheel). The multifunction display will now display "TIRE PRES. NOW OK?".
6. To confirm system activation, press "+" button. The multifunction display will now display "TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR REACTIVATED". After a certain "learning phase", the system checks the set pressure values for all 4 tires. NOTE: During the learning phase, the relative rolling circumferences of the tires are taught in 6 different vehicle speed intervals (in which front left and rear right tire RPM are compared, and front right and rear left tire RPM are compared). The matching of individual intervals takes 10 minutes per interval. TPM system is not active during this learning phase.
7. To cancel activation process, press "-" button or wait until "TIRE PRES. NOW OK? message disappears.

TPMS RESET - PROCEDURE 11

Note. Whenever tire pressure has been adjusted, or when wheels or tires have been replaced, the TPM system must be reactivated before it can work.

Note. TPMS activation is accomplished by using the multifunction display control buttons on the steering wheel.

1. Switch ignition to ON.
2. Use the multifunction display buttons (left side of steering wheel) to access the standard (default) display.
3. Use the up or down arrow multifunction display buttons to access the "Tire Pressure" menu. You will see a message that indicates that it is the TPMS that is being adjusted.
4. Press the reset button. see scheme 50
5. You will see a message that asks that the adjustment be confirmed. Use the "+" button to select "YES".
6. Press "OK". A comfirmation message will be displayed.
7. After 10 minutes of driving, the current tire inflation pressure values are accepted as reference values.

PRODUCTION SPECIFICATIONS

TPMS RESET - PROCEDURE 13

Note. Whenever tire pressures have been adjusted, or when wheels or tires have been replaced or rotated, the TPM system must be driven for 10 minutes in order to learn the tire pressure sensor IDs.

Note. There are two methods available for resetting the TPM system - manual and automatic. The manual reset procedure utilizes the left and right multifunction steering wheel button group and the information display in the instrument cluster. The automatic reset procedure will implement after the vehicle has been driven for 10 minutes. The automatic restart method may or may not apply to Canadian only models.

Note. After wheel rotation or sensor replacement, the vehicle must be parked for 20 minutes before attempting to restart the TPM system.

If the multifunction display shows a tire pressure warning message, immediately check air pressure of all tires and adjust to the specified pressure. Drive vehicle for 10 minutes to ensure malfunction has been corrected.

Manual TPMS Restart Procedure

1. Using the Tire and Loading Information placard on the driver's door B-pillar or the supplemental tire inflation pressure information on the inside of the fuel filler flap, make sure the tire inflation pressure of all four tires is correct.
2. Switch on the ignition.
3. Press left or right arrow button on the multifunction steering wheel to select the SERVICE menu.
4. Press up or down button on the multifunction steering wheel to select TIRE PRESSURE.
5. Press OK button. The current inflation pressure for each tire appears in the multifunction display or the following message appears in the multifunction display: TIRE PRESSURES WILL BE DISPLAYED AFTER DRIVING A FEW MINUTES.
6. Press down arrow button. The following message appears in the multifunction display: USE CURRENT PRESSURES AS NEW REFERENCE VALUES PRESS 'OK' TO CONFIRM.
7. Press OK button. The following message appears in the multifunction display: TIRE PRESS. MONITOR RESTARTED.

After driving a few minutes the system verifies that the current tire inflation pressures are within the system's specified range. Afterward the current tire inflation pressures are accepted as reference values and then monitored.

Note. When the wheel positions have been changed, the inflation pressure of a tire may be displayed for the wrong position temporarily. After driving for a few minutes, the inflation pressure will be shown for the correct position.

TPMS RESET - PROCEDURE 14

1. Using the Tire and Loading Information placard on the driver's door B-pillar or the supplemental tire inflation pressure information on the inside of the fuel filler flap, make sure the tire inflation pressure of all four tires is correct.
2. Switch on the ignition.
3. Press left or right button on left side of the multifunction steering wheel repeatedly until the standard display appears in the multifunction display.
4. Press up or down button repeatedly until you see the current inflation pressures for each tire appear in the display or the following message appears in the multifunction display: TIRE PRESSURE DISPLAYED AFTER DRIVING FOR A FEW MINUTES.
5. Press the reset button. see scheme 51 The following message will appear in the multifunction display: RESTART TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR?
6. If you wish to confirm: Press + button. The following message will appear in the multifunction display: TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR RESTARTED.

After driving a few minutes the system verifies that the current tire inflation pressures are within the system's specified range. Afterwards the current tire inflation pressures are accepted as reference values and then monitored.

Note. When the wheel positions have been changed, the inflation pressure of a tire may be displayed for the wrong position temporarily. After driving for a few minutes, the inflation pressure will be shown for the correct position.

TPMS RESET - PROCEDURE 15

Note. This procedure is for vehicles with an Indirect TPMS. There are no tire pressure sensors installed in the tires.

Note. The manfacturer's description for this procedure is restarting the the tire pressure monitor.

Note. The tire pressure monitor must be restarted when tire pressures are set to a new value (as a result of changed drive or load characteristics, for example). The tire pressure monitor then monitors the new tire pressure values. Re-inflating tires to the currently established specification does not require a restart.

Note. TPMS restart is accomplished by using the multifunction display control buttons on left side of steering wheel.

1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
2. Ensure inflation pressure of all 4 tires is set to specification.
3. Make sure that the SmartKey is in position 2 in the ignition lock.
4. Press the left or right arrow button to select the SERV. menu.
5. Press the up or down arrow button to select TIRE PRESSURE.
6. Press the OK button. The multifunction display shows the current tire pressure of the individual tires, or the message "Tire pressure will be displayed after driving a few minutes".
7. Press the down arrow button. The message "Use Current Pressures as New Reference Values" will appear.
8. Press the OK button. The message "Tire Press. Monitor Restarted" will appear.
9. After about 10 minutes driving time the current tire pressures are displayed. The activation process is complete.

1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
2. Ensure inflation pressure of all 4 tires is set to specification.
3. Make sure that the SmartKey is in position 2 in the ignition lock.
4. Press and hold the lower left button (Menu Scroll) on the multifunction steering wheel until the standard display (Odometer/Trip Odometer) appears in the multifunction display.
5. Press the UP or DOWN arrow button until the tire pressure of each wheel appears or the "Tire Pressure Displayed Only After Driving For A Few Minutes" message is shown.
6. Press the reset button on the instrument cluster. see scheme 52 The "Restart Tire Pres. Monitor?" message appears in the multifunction display.
7. To confirm the restart, press the + button. The "Tire Pres. Monitor Restarted" message appears in the multifunction display.
8. After driving for a few minutes, the system checks whether the current tire pressures are within the specified range. The new tire pressures are then accepted as reference values and monitored.

Note. In most cases, the tire pressure monitor detects new reference values, automatically, after you have changed tire pressures, changed wheels or tires, or installed new wheels or tires. New reference values can be input manually (reactivated/reset). See appropriate procedure below.
