Function

The brakes for BAS are applied in exactly the same way as with normal brake application, but with BAS the pressure is increased more quickly according to the speed at which the driver presses the brake pedal.

The ESP control unit (N47-5) recognizes that the preconditions exist for activation of BAS from the speed of the brake pedal and the vehicle speed.

BAS is switched on when the following conditions exist

  1. The speed is > 10 km/h.
  2. The stop lamp switch (S9/1) is operated.
  3. No current fault is detected.
  4. The system is released after a self-test.
  5. The pedal speed threshold is exceeded.

BAS is switched off when one of the following conditions is present

  1. The brake pedal pressure is reduced by the driver to such an extent that emergency braking is no longer required.
  2. The stop lamp switch (S9/1) is not operated.
  3. The speed is < 3 km/h.
  4. A fault is detected that causes the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1) to be activated.

Function

If faults occur in the system, the front axle brake circuit is braked hydraulically by the brake pedal. This procedure takes place without brake servo assistance.

In the event of a malfunction the two left front separation valves (A7/3y1) and right front separation valves (A7/3y2) remain open.

The pressure is increased in the tandem master brake cylinder of the operating unit (1) by the brake pedal.

The spring assembly in the pedal pressure simulator (2) is compressed first.

The pressure then builds up further and is lead directly to the right front brake caliper (5a) and left front brake caliper (5b) of the front wheel brakes. The left front dividing piston (7) and right front dividing piston (8) prevent the brake fluid from flowing back and thus permit the pressure buildup.

Function

If faults occur in the system, the front axle brake circuit is braked hydraulically by the brake pedal. This process takes place without brake servo assistance.

The left front separation valve (A7/3y1) and right front separation valve remains open (A7/3y2) in the event of a fault.

The pressure is increased in the tandem master brake cylinder of the operating unit (1) by the brake pedal.

The spring assembly in the pedal pressure simulator (2) is compressed first.

Afterwards the pressure builds up further and is lead directly to the right front brake caliper (5a) and left front brake caliper (5b) of the front wheel brakes. The left front dividing piston (7) and right front dividing piston (8) prevents the brake fluid from flowing back and thus enables the pressure buildup.
