MODEL 240

Identifying Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) Components - Shown On Model 211.0. Scheme 90

Scheme 32: ESP-Closed-Loop Operation Diagram - Pressure Buildup (Shown On Model 230)

ESP-closed-loop operation, pressure buildup (shown on model 230)

The control process shown in the example and the valve positions refer to the FR brake.

An intervention in the brake system for vehicle stabilization is introduced at the FR wheel by the ESP, SPS [PML] and BAS control unit (N47-5).

At the start of the ESP control the left front separation valve and right front separation valve (y1 and y2) and the front axle balance valve (y4) are closed. The right front outlet control valve remains closed. The right front inlet control valve is opened.

The pressure from the pressure reservoir (3) can now be built up at the right front brake caliper.

Scheme 33: ESP-Closed-Loop Operation Diagram - Pressure Holding

ESP closed-loop operation, pressure holding

The control process shown in the example and the valve positions refer to the FR brake.

If a stronger intervention by the brake system is no longer required for stabilization, the ESP closed-loop operation pressure holding starts.

The right front inlet control valve (y8) is closed. As a result the pressure from the pressure reservoir cannot be increased in the brake caliper.

Scheme 92

Scheme 34: ESP-Closed-Loop Operation Diagram - Pressure Reduction

ESP control mode, pressure reduction

The control process shown in the example and the valve positions refer to the FR brake.

If the brake pressure required to stabilize the vehicle is too high, the ESP pressure reduction control mode commences.

The pressure reduction phase is initiated by opening the right front outlet control valve (y9). The right front inlet control valve (y8) and front axle balance valve (y3) remains closed.

The returning brake fluid flows back via the return pipe to the brake fluid reservoir.
