Removal & Installation: Overview Mazda Tribute I

Note. If equipped with belt tensioner.

1. Remove the water pump belt. Refer to «WATER PUMP BELT - 3.0L DURATEC (4V) WITH TENSIONER»(ref-175803-S03831664502005042900000) .
2. Remove the bolt and the belt tensioner.
3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

1. Remove the three nuts and the engine appearance cover.
2. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube from the valve cover.
3. Remove the three LH coil-on-plugs. Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the bolt. Remove the coil.
4. Disconnect the wiring harness from the valve cover studs.
5. Remove the engine lift bracket.
6. Position the power steering hose aside. Remove the bolt.
7. Remove the bolts, studs and the LH valve cover. Remove and discard the gasket.

1. Position a new gasket on the valve cover.
2. Apply a 5 mm dot of Silicone Gasket Sealant to the front cover to cylinder head joints.
3. Position the valve cover and install the studs and the bolts in the sequence shown.
4. Position the power steering hose and install the bolt.
5. Position the engine lift bracket and install the bolt.
6. Connect the wiring harness to the valve cover studs.
7. Install the three LH coil-on-plug. Position the coil. Install the bolts. Connect the electrical connector.
8. Connect the crankcase ventilation tube to the valve cover.
9. Install the nuts and the engine appearance cover.

1. Remove the upper intake manifold. Refer to the following: For 2001 models, see «UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD»(ref-12159-S32078506522000121300000) . For 2002 models, see «UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD»(ref-134974-S14353278652002022100000) . For 2003 models, see «UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD»(ref-151901-S13314271262003010900000) .
2. Remove the RH coil-on-plugs. Disconnect the three electrical connectors. Remove the three bolts. Remove the RH coil-on-plugs.
3. Remove the wiring harness nuts and disconnect the (O2) sensor electrical connectors.
4. Disconnect the radio ignition interference capacitor.
5. Separate the harness from the center locating pins and position aside.
6. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube from the valve cover.
7. Remove the bolts, studs and the RH valve cover. Remove and discard the gasket.
