Starting System: Removal & Installation Mazda RX-8 I

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

WARNINGWhen battery cables are connected, touching the vehicle body with starter terminal B will generate sparks. This can cause personal injury, fire, and damage to electrical components. Be sure to disconnect the battery before performing the following operation.

Note. On models with anti-theft system, obtain code number and deactivate audio anti-theft system before disconnecting battery.

  1. Remove the engine cover.
  2. Remove the battery cover.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove components as numbered in the illustration. Numbers in parenthesis reference numbers in the illustration. Terminal "B" wire (1), terminal "S" wire (2) and starter (3). (Scheme 6)
  5. Install in the reverse order of removal. Tighten starter bolts to specifications. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-169177-S27543244542004120100000).

  1. Remove the engine cover.
