DESCRIPTION
The heater assembly is located in the passenger compartment. A heater control valve is used to regulate coolant flow and heat output. The heater assembly contains the heater core, heater control valve, air ducts, blower motor and intake ducts. The heater uses an electronic logical control panel to control the mode control, air mix control and recirc/fresh select motors.
Air Flow Control
The air flow control channels the air through the ducts to the particular air vents. Select the desired vent by pushing the corresponding botton. A light comes on to indicate mode operation.
Air Intake Control
The air intake control is used to select either fresh air from outside or recirculated air. Pushing the air intake control button on selects recirculated air. Pushing the button off causes fresh air and the recirculation indicator light to go out.
Temperature Control
The desired air temperature is selected by sliding the temperature control lever either to the right for hot or to the left for cold.
Fan Speed Control
The fan speed control lever allows variable fan speed ranging from off ("OFF") to high ("MAX") position.

A special Logicon Checker has not been developed for this model. Instead, an Intermediate Adaptor Harness (49 F061 001) has been adopted for the present Logicon Checker (49 9200 030). Make connections as shown in the figure above.
Note that the green connector (at the logicon checker side) need not be connected, because it is for the lever-type heater control of the previous model.
HOW TO USE LOGICON CHECKER
- Set each switch of checker to off position.
- Connect red wire to positive terminal of battery. Connect Black wire to negative terminal of battery.
- Securely connect each connector of mode control switch to the White connectors of checker.
- Set power switch (SW1) to the "ON" position. At this time the Red LEDs Nos. 1, 3, 6 and 8 will illuminate when the "REC-FRESH" switch and "A/C" switch are turned off. If one of the logical control switches are turned on, the Green LED corresponding to that switch will illuminate.
- Press the control switches in order and check whether or not the corresponding Green LED on the checker illuminates. If the LED does not illuminate, the problem is in the logical control switch. NOTE: The Red No. 1 LED will go off when the "REC-FRESH" switch is turned on while using the checker, but this is a normal function. When the "HEAT/DEF" button is pushed on, the No. 4 LED comes on. This indicates correct operation.
- Operate SW 3, SW 4, and SW 5 of checker and perform the following checks: Check whether or not LED No. 2 illuminates and LED No. 3 goes off when SW 3 lever is moved to the "ON" position. Check whether or not LED No. 5 illuminates and LED No. 6 goes off when SW 4 lever is moved to the "ON" position. Check whether or not LED No. 7 illuminates and LED No. 8 goes off when SW 5 lever is moved to the "ON" position.
- Set the illumination switch to "ON". Check the indicator lights of the logical control buttons. Perform the test described in step 5) and check to see if the indicator light of each logical control button is in the dimmed mode. If not, the problem is in the logical control switch.

Installation
Install actuator to heater case using 3 screws. Install shaft No. 2 to plate No. 4. Ensure damper No. 1 is completely shut ("VENT" position). With control lever in "VENT" position, install shaft No. 3 to actuator lever. (Scheme 22)
Scheme 21
Ensure that actuator lever is in maximum "COLD" position. Install actuator to heater case using 3 screws. Set water valve to the maximum "COLD" position and install shaft No. 2 on actuator lever. (Scheme 22)

Connect actuator lever to damper lever. Install actuator to blower case. (Scheme 2)
Note. Removal and installation procedures for other system components not available from manufacturer. However, an exploded view of the system has been provided. (Scheme 23)
