SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK

When ignition is turned on, SRS indicator light should come on for about 6 seconds and then go off. While vehicle is driven, light should not come on or flash. If SRS indicator light does not operate as specified, system must be inspected/repaired as soon as possible.

Turn ignition switch to ON position. AIRBAG indicator light should come on for about 10 seconds and then go out. If light flashes and then remains on, control unit has detected a system fault. If light does not glow, check bulb. If bulb is okay, perform diagnostics and repair as necessary.

Turn ignition switch to ON position. If SRS warning light does not come on, SRS warning light bulb or circuit is faulty. If SRS warning light comes on and then goes out after about 6 seconds, SRS is okay at this time. If SRS warning light does not respond as specified, SRS is malfunctioning and must be repaired.

Turn ignition on. SRS warning light on instrument panel should come on for about 7 seconds then turn off. This indicates SRS is functioning properly. If SRS warning light does not come on, stays on, or comes on while driving, SRS is malfunctioning and needs repair.

1. When checking SRS operation, and at completion of each diagnostic test, check for faults in SRS. To check system, turn ignition switch to RUN position. If AIR BAG warning light glows 4-8 seconds and then goes out, SRS is functioning properly and no fault codes exist.
2. If a fault code is detected in SRS during initial system check, AIR BAG warning light will fail to light, stay on continuously or flash a code sequence. If AIR BAG warning light flashes, indicating a fault in system, count number of flashes after fault code has cycled twice. Number of flashes represents a code number used to diagnose SRS.
3. If a system fault code exists and AIR BAG warning light fails to light, an audible tone will be heard indicating AIR BAG warning light is out and service is required.

If system is functioning normally, AIR BAG indicator light should light steadily for about 6 seconds when ignition switch is first turned to ACC or ON position. If AIR BAG indicator light does not function as described, perform diagnostics.

SIR system faults are usually due to a disconnected/loose electrical connector caused by previous service on vehicle. Always check Yellow SIR connector at base of steering column and behind glove box.

When ignition is turned on, SRS indicator light will glow for about 6 seconds and then go off. If indicator does not glow, does not go off after about 6 seconds or glows while driving, system must be inspected as soon as possible.

Turn ignition on. Supplemental restraint system Service Reminder Indicator (SRI) light should flash for 6 seconds, then turn off. If SRI does not function as stated, a failure has occurred in supplemental restraint system and must be repaired.

Turn ignition switch to ON position. INFL REST indicator light should flash 7-9 times then go off, indicating SIR system is functioning properly. Following conditions indicate SIR system is malfunctioning and requires service.

1. INFL REST indicator light does not illuminate as described.
2. During engine cranking, INFL REST indicator light does not remain on steady.
3. After starting engine, INFL REST indicator light does not blink 7-9 times then goes out.
4. After starting engine, INFL REST indicator light flashes Code 12.

Turn ignition switch to ACC or ON position. Air bag warning light in instrument cluster should come on for about 6 seconds, then go out. If light does not respond as specified, SRS is malfunctioning and needs repair.

Turn ignition on. AIR BAG warning light in instrument cluster should glow for 4-8 seconds and then turn off. If AIR BAG warning light does not function as described, a failure has occurred in Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Repair malfunctioning SRS.

The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) warning light indicates air bag and Emergency Tensioning Retractor (ETR) system readiness. Turn ignition on. SRS warning light will light, and then go out after approximately 4 seconds indicating system is functioning properly. If SRS warning light does not light, lights up while driving or lights all the time, there is a system fault. Repair malfunctioning system.

Turn ignition on. AIR BAG warning light should come on for about 7 seconds and then go off, indicating SRS is okay. If AIR BAG warning light does not come on, service Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). If AIR BAG warning light stays on constantly, service SRS. If AIR BAG warning light comes on for about 7 seconds, goes off, then starts flashing, a fault code is set in memory. Diagnose and repair as necessary.

Turn ignition switch to ON position. AIR BAG light on instrument panel should come on for about 2-5 seconds and then go off. If AIR BAG light fails to come on, remains on after 2-5 seconds or comes on while driving, air bag system requires servicing. Diagnose and repair as necessary.

Turn ignition on. AIR BAG warning light in instrument cluster should come on and then go out after approximately 8 seconds. If AIR BAG warning light stays on for longer than 8 seconds, or does not come on, SRS is malfunctioning.

Turn ignition switch to ACC or ON position. Air bag warning light should come on for about 6 seconds, then go out. If air bag warning light does not operate as specified, service air bag system.

Turn ignition switch to ON position (engine not running). If no fault codes are present, SRS warning light will go out after 10 seconds. If SRS is malfunctioning, SRS fault code will be stored in crash sensor memory during the following conditions

1. SRS warning light does not glow.
2. SRS warning light does not go out after 10 seconds.
3. SRS warning light does not go out after engine is started.
4. SRS warning light comes on while driving. If SRS warning light indicates a malfunction, enter self-diagnostics and retrieve fault codes.
